UT has accepted an invite to the GMAC Bowl. That means that if Akron loses, they aren't going anywhere. Northern Illinois will go to Detroit. If Akron wins, then they go to Detroit. Or so we think.

Um...they will be 6-6 if they lose, that is bowl eligible.

NOt this year it isn't. They would have to petition the NCAA for a waiver/exemption because during an 11 game wseason you have to have a winning record.

...and at that point, there won't be a bowl available for them to petition for. NIU wins and NIU gets MCB and then there's nothing left. If there is anything left, they won't be the MAC team getting in.
I described this scenario to someone in the NCAA's media relations office. They conferred with Those Who Know and said that a 6-5 MAC team that loses the conference championship game will NOT BE BOWL ELIGIBLE at 6-6.
End of story.
