Figure I'll throw in my 2 cents...

If Akron wins, Akron, Toledo and NIU will all go bowling. If Akron loses, Toledo, NIU, and another MAC school will. The other MAC school will probably be WMU or BG.

The only reason I think our season is over is not because of home attendance, but we don't travel well. Detroit for the MCB was a different story than the GMAC. I guess though, depending on what bowl and when it is, we could have a decent turn out. Honestly, who's going to want to go out to California or some other far-away state around Christmas? Most of you won't be able to get time off or have the money. I'd probably drive again, but that's just me :D

I would personally be outraged if the Motor City did not take the MAC Champion! How pissed would we be if we won the MAC and they gave the bid to someone else. That's wrong. We blew it, we are not going anywhere. Let's suck it up and work on not making the same mistakes next year.

agreed. This would be a dangerous precedent to set if we were invited to detroit this year.

Keep your two cents. Only two MAC schools will go to bowl games this year.

Look at ESPN bowl prediction:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2194032

The 8 being left out of the 56 bowl slots are:

WAC - Louisiana Tech
Sun Belt - Louisiana-Lafayette
Mountain West - New Mexico
Mid-American - Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Miami, and Western Michigan

Looking at who they having going who also have 6-5 reocrds they all deserve it more than BG:

ACC: NC State and Virginia
Big 12: Kansas and Missouri (both bowl tie-ins)
Conference USA: Houston, Memphis, and Southern Miss (2 of 3 bowl tie-ins)
Mountain West: BYU, Colorado State, and Utah (2 of 3 bowl tie-ins)
Pac-10: Arizona State (bowl tie-in)
Sun Belt - Arkansas State (bowl tie-in)

There is no chance that BG will go as there are two teams in MAC with better records (Miami and Western Michigan) with Western having beaten BG.

We are graduates of BGSU and attended all home games and 3 away (Boise, Wisconsin, and Ball State). BG does not deserve to go to a Bowl game this year.
Sorry about the miscount at the start of the thread. Yeah, with 8 teams getting cut it seems impossible now. What I dont get is why BYU or Houston would get picked over BG. Theres no way those teams are better than us.

Everyone keeps going back to merit (i.e., we are better than BYU and Houston). It's about MONEY. Bowling Green would likely whip either BYU or Houston, but either of those two will put more butts in the seats (especially west of the Mississippi River).

Most likely because of location and attendance. I think all mormons have to go to a BYU game if its within 3 hours and there is a lot of them out west, so its a good draw for Vegas, plus they can't drink when they're gambling so its more money for the casinos. For these games it doesn't always come down to who is better, just who can draw a bigger crowd. This is really why replacing one of these "lower" bowl games out west with one it lets say, Toronto, could really help the MAC in the future.

Does anyone know when we might find out who does end up in the motor city bowl? Sometime this week or next?

If BG does not make a bowl, it is our own fault unfortunately. Like it was stated earlier in this post, bowl games are all about the cash. If we dont get into the motor city bowl, I doubt any other bowl is going to take a chance on a 6-5 team from Bowling Green Ohio who has had pretty weak attendence throughout the season.

That being said, I sure as hell hope we get in somewhere, I wanna see one more game.

They will probably wait until after the MACC game.

This discussion could pretty much stop after someone scouts activity outside the Doyt.

Are we at least practicing in hope of getting an invite, or is the equipment in storage already?

Excellent call. Anyone have any insight? Is everything mothballed, or are we officially clinging to that thread of hope?

Even if they were expecting a bowl bid, I don't know that they'd be practicing this week anyway.

I don't think you CAN practice after the season until you get a bowl bid ( I think Akron got permission to work out last year because they looked like they might get a bid). The NCAA places some pretty tight controls on practice time even if you do get a bid. They limnit the number of and duration of sessions you can have,

The additional practice time is a huge side benefit of landing a bid

based on buts for seats and cash, I would not be suprised to see the NIu captians accept the bowl bid, from bowl reps who just tossed the coin for the MACC.
Taht would be a great bowl for NIU fans.
I would rank the MAC schools fairly close to our final records as potential bowl picks, if I were picking.
1. Toledo
2. NIU good fan base realy up for thier team and will go to a bowl.
3. while western and Miami both have better records this year, i would pick BG for the Omar and O excitement factor.
4. for a motor city bowl, Western at large Miami
5. akron even with a MACC, i just dont see Akron exciting the motor city bowl, a bowl that has been excited about growth and draw..akron is bad business decesion...damed if you ( low numbers) damed if you dont ( a MAC confernce left wondering what the championship is good for. A comish whos mail system crashes, and is left spliting the MAC in to the MAC haves and MAC have nots.
