Leftwich was drafted higher than Pennington because Pruett said he was the best QB he had ever coached??? Okay

And while Omar's delivery is unorthodox, I would hardly call it side arm.

My 12 year old could have written this article.

Redwingtom; what exactly about this article makes John Harris a "Moron" everything he said makes sense, Omar should return for one more year. I also don't believe he is ready for that big step to the NFL.

I think its funny they talk about his delivery. Omars motion moves the ball forward from a spot 10"-11" straight forward between 12 and 1 o'clock. Hardly a sidarm, but looks more like a shotput.
ALso the very reasons Harris says Omar should stay, are the same reasons he should go.

Personally I think Omar should stay to take another shot at a MACC, if he does not he is leaving on the table incomplet.
But NFL money has a lot of draw, for many reasons.

I hope Omar stays, just because I'm selfish and I want to see him in the brown and orange for one more year. But if I were him, I would be gone in a heartbeat. Gotta get grandfathered in before the rule changes in 2007.

On top of that, the only way he improves his stock is to have a 2004-like season numbers wise. That is almost impossible even if he had the same talent level around him, which he won't. Omar may have screwed himself by being too good in 2004.

The biggest reason why Omar should not come back is the other people in the draft.

This year's senior crop of QBs is crap. Leinart is top 5 material but the next best are Cutler & Hackney. Neither of those guys is going to be picked in the first round, and Omar probably stacks up pretty favorably with both of them as prospects. If Omar is the only Junior to leave I would not be surprised to have him at the 2nd QB off the board.

However, his Junior class is full of talent. Marcus Vick, Brady Quinn, and Vince Young are all going to be seen as better prospects than Omar. I wouldn't be surprised to see Vince declare (although Mack Brown usually keeps his guys for 4 years), but I'd be shocked to see either Vick or Quinn declare this year.

Looking at how this draft stacks up I'm really thinking that it's in Omar's best interest to leave early. He's not going to be the top 15 pick, so he won't be getting a huge signing bonus, but this year he's a lock for being in the top 3-4 QBs taken, which guarantees him first day. Next year he might not get that sort of guarantee.

but the only thing that matters is what the real feedback is that Omar recieves over the next couple of weeks. Omar is a dam good QB and Leader, funny isnt that no toledo names were mentioned in the mock.....

If Omar gets drafted before Vince Young I'll eat a bug...any bug any where.

I think Omar could excel in Arizona with that WR tandem (and Denny Green is a good coach), but I cannot imagine anyone passing on Vince Young to take Omar.

Looking at this pragmatically, this is a financial decision. Things like the MACC mean very little compared to millions of dollars. If the end analysis says that declaring for the draft this year will result in more money than waiting a year, the decision is quite simple.

That list is kind of strange. Gradkowski makes the top 20, but Kent Smith fall in the "Small School Sleeper" list. How is Central a small school? Given that, I am discounted thier analysis.

And there is no way Omar would get drafted in the top 10 ahead of Vince Young. IMO.

I've heard rumblings to that fact, but I'm not sure they really effect Omar a whole lot. They're geared towards changing things for first round picks, specifically those taken in the top 10. I'm not sure how much change is going to happen to players drafted in the 2nd round and beyond.

The problem is that every year the guys drafted in the top 5 become the highest paid players at their position. Kellen Winslow is the highest paid TE in the league (unless Gates' contract passed it). Ronnie Brown is one of the highest paid RBs & Alex Smith is one of the highest paid QBs. The salary structure, especially in the top 5 is way outta line with the rest of the NFL. The thought is that they'll move towards something like basketball and have set salary structures for players picked at each pick.

Conversely guys taken in the 2nd round will get a signing bonus of $500k-$1million. It's good money, and definitely will change your life, but its not quite the $15-20million that top 5 guys get.

If Omar's looking to be a 2nd-3rd rounder I'm not sure getting in before the new agreement matters much. If he's valued at a first rounder it definitely behooves him to get into the '06 draft, just in case.

Your correct 87 the draft cap plays a very big part, and some rumors have lots of guys pulling out this year early.

As far as Omar going before Young, it will depend upon the system that is drafting the QB, each team has a diferent system and Young and Jacobs are very different system QBs, so Omar could well go ahead of young, not because he is a "better" player but becasue he fits a system that picks early.

Now if it were me, and I were some like Matty boy, or Reggie I would realy realy hope that someone would trade up for me...so I dont fall into obsecurity with a poor NFL team

Of course one could make the comment here that Toledo plays COLLEGE football and in that arena we had a pretty good guy. In fact our QB, a fellow named Gradkowski, was named the top QB in our little football league, due in no small measure to his sterling performance in his last regular season game against our chief rival where he threw the winning TD pass on the last play of the game..

Of course he will play in the post season in both all star games and bowl games as well. Darn shame he didn't make that little list, though.
