BG's true hockey rival

Post by CrazytrainBG »

I've been thinking hard about this topic the past few weeks. I'm trying to decide who BG's one true rival is in hockey. My conclusion right now has to be Michigan State, but i know you could make arguments for OSU, Miami, Michigan, and Notre Dame. Even the outside one with UNO and us being their "supposed" rival, but what do you guys think? I'm just curious as to which team BG fans feel is the big hockey rival you flock to the Ice Arena to see. :coo-coo:

All those you've listed are possible, but I thing it's them stinkin' spartans.

One of my fondest ice arena memories, probably goes back to the early 80's...shortly after MSU joined the CCHA. They brought a pretty good sized group of fans down, and several times they tried to get their "go green" - "go white" chant started. We'd always overwhelm them with "GO SUCK AN EGG". I've got no idea how it got started, or why I've always found it so amusing, but to this day there are many of us 'old-timers' who still refer to MSU as 'the egg suckers'

It got started in Section A. I think my son was one of the first to yell it. He even had a sweatshirt made for me with Go Green Go White Go Suck an Egg on the back.

And I would agree--at least in the good old days, MSU was our big rival. I think a lot of it was because Ron Mason used to be at BG then left us to go to MSU.

We get escorted out of the arena by the BGSU cops for standing and cheering to be honest. Happened last weekend at the Miami game.

It is one of my all time favorite cheers.....We had it in the 70's too. And to their "Let's Go State".....We would outyell them with "Go Home State". Very clever, I know.....but with Section A and H yelling it at them it was very effective!
Yeah- Hated the Spartans then, still dislike them now! There is just something about them.....

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Just wondering how the cheering section is coming along? I know BGDrew said something about starting up the section again.

After the initial e-mail from Coach Paluch I haven't heard anything further. If anything transpires I will keep you guys updated, but right now nothing new.

I wonder if the alumni athletic band could sit in section A.

Hmmmmmmm. That would be a kick in the head, wouldn't it?

That is ridiculous!!! It's a sporting event, not a movie. I can't stand when I hear this stuff.

I would be interested in knowing about what year you think that was?

We're slated to be there the 7th of January, I believe. I'm going to be there fo' sure, fo' sure, fo' sure.

I don't know what we would need as far as approval to sit in SecA. MAN I would be hepped up for that game!

Newspapers
Quarter up/quarter down
That's debatable/open for conjecture
Section A Screamer

I wanna, I wanna, I wanna. I'll give an email to Jeff R who is heading up this charge. See if we can sit in A.
