Whether or not Omar stays, I don't believe we will be much better next year, it at all. Some guys MAY step in and do well on offense, but who knows until it actually happens? The young guys on defense MAY play better next year, but again, who knows? Special teams and game management skills will likely continue to be mediocre.

That being said, there's no reason we can't compete for the MAC simply because the MAC East was horrible this year and could be even worse next year. I see 7-5 overall, 6-2 in the MAC and backing into the MAC East title.

With Omar - we step up and somehow win the MACC and MCB (final record of 9-5)

Without Omar - we lose the MACC and MCB (final record of 7-7)

Lloyd Carr is fired after Michigan loses again to ND and OSU (and a few other games they shouldn't). The new HC hires Gregg Brandon as UM's new offensive coordinator.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't brought this aspect up yet....but why do we schedule such hard OOC games. It's got to be the pay day it represents.

Toledo pretty much coasted through their OOC early this year, and chalked up wins.

So why don't we do the same? Especially since bowl eligibility depends on total wins not Strength of Schedule.

Lets face it, what would you rather be doing next year..."wow, we sure gave theOSU a good game" or planning your Bowl junket?

Personally, I like the OOC Sked because it gets exposure! look at what Fresno State has done, check out VT and the Horned Frogs. If we schedule weak and only concern ourselves with the MAC games (which are really weak anyhow) that sort of strategy doesn't help with recruiting. I think the tough games only make us better. At the same time, losses doesn't help with recruiting either. I'd rather watch us compete and be competitive and lose a game against top programs than barely get by in our own weak azzzz conference.

I see it about the same way as far as the BG record goes, both scenarios. I'd gladly take a 10-4 or 9-5 championship year. As to crybaby carr, I hope he wins just enough to stay around for years. Is the UM reference a dual meaning?

You were clever enough to live in SD. I love PB, and Neptune Beach at the southern end of La Jolla. Since this post is kinda off topic for "other schools", I'll qualify it by saying that long ago I dated a girl that graduated from Bishop's School in La Jolla ô¿ô

And now we have 2 bowl games out here - if only BG could play in one of them!

As far as next year, there are obviously a lot of question marks. I think the d-line and linebackers will be very good next year. In watching BG throughout this season, it became apparent to me that the players were really catching on to what Lovett was trying to teach them. His defense really depends on the speed and play of the linebackers, especially the ones on the outside. I would say that in general the front seven played better when Tim Arnold was on the outside. I think this is a really smart move because we might not recruit the biggest linebackers in the future, but if they are quick and athletic then they can make some realy big plays in this defense. The biggest concern with the defense is the defensive backfield. I don't mean the players themselves, they are great athletes and are capable of making big plays. But, it doesn't seem like they are in a position to do that a whole lot. I am not sure if it is the zone we play or whatever, but we just don't seem to make a lot of plays on the ball when it is in the air. If you go back and watch the Toledo game (which I am sure some people have on tape) you will see what I am talking about. Other than the pass break up by White, another pass that hit our cornerback in the helmet, unless Gradkowski made a bad throw or we sacked him, his passes were completed. That means that out of all his passes he thrrew we only got to two of them. We are better than that and I am not sure why we can't make more of those plays. Bottom line, it doesn't matter what our offense does if we can't stop the pass on defense i.e. the Wisconsin game.

I would take an 8-4 regular season and run straight to the bank. My expectations for next year, as of right now, are getting swept but being relatively competetive in the 3 big OOC games, and being in the hunt for an East title in one of the worst divisions in college football. 6-6 sounds about right. Hopefully I'm wrong and we kick some azz.

Well if Omar leaves we are missing out on having who is arguably one of the best passers in all college football, and his leaving will have greater efffect on our O early on than AT can impact it. Dont get me wrong i believe in AT and his abilities, i just dont see him as mature as Omar was vs Oklahoma.
our D however will be another story next year, and will back at the top of the MAC where it belongs so even with out Omar, we will be able to keeps points off the board. But our D will not be able to be counted to beat WI, or OSU on thier own, they will need to see us put points up to stay motivated and have a chance.

i see us 2-2 to start the season subject Omar not being here, if Omar is here, 3-1
