Rick Chryst trying to get four bowls for the MAC
It is because of this that I have been rooting for NIU. If Akron were to lose, they would be 6-6 and not eligible for a bowl. We would be the fourth and last bowl-eligible team. Just as I type this, Akron's QB throws a TD pass to Hixson with :10 to play. Akron is going to win the MAC Football Title. I almost hate to say this, but I wish we had a coaching staff like Akron's. JD Brookhart has to be the most underrated coach in this league. It sounds strange to say the Akron Zips are MAC Football Champs, but they have certainly earned it. Akron is going to the Motor City Bowl. Congrats to the Zips. That has to be one of, if not, the most exciting MAC Title Games I've ever seen.

Man that was a great game. Perhaps we were too rough on Akron...
Let me just say this...on their final drive of the game, they got to midfield and kept going...they took their shot, and they deserve all the credit for it.
I feel badly for NIU, who I feel has been badly star-crossed over the years. But they lost this one on the field. It has to hurt, bad.

Congrats to Akron. They put themselves in a chance to get to the MACC, got some help from other teams, and then never gave up tonight. I still think we should have beaten them in the regular season, but who would have thought in the preseason, or even going into tonight's game, that Akron would come out on top. THEY BEAT NIU TWICE THIS SEASON!

What makes it worse for NIU is that Toledo is going bowling while they are staying home, even after NIU was finally able to beat Toledo and win the division. Maybe we can take perverse pleasure in knowing there's another MAC team feeling more anguish than us right now.I feel badly for NIU, who I feel has been badly star-crossed over the years. A little schadenfreude, if you will? Where the heck is he, anyway?San Diego Falcon wrote:What makes it worse for NIU is that Toledo is going bowling while they are staying home, even after NIU was finally able to beat Toledo and win the division. You are right, though. If this does not prove the subversive, pejorative evil that is Toledo, I don't know what does. NIU was far and away the better team this year, even taking into account the fact that Toledo beat us at home.
Everyone say a prayer for Novak and the Huskies tonight before you go to bed. This is a very, VERY hard loss for them to swallow. I just hope there is enough sugar to help it go down without them choking.

Congrats to Akron. I like their coach. He seems like a great motivator and if he can convince anyone to go to the University of Akron, then he must be a good salesman. Akron clearly wanted it more than NIU all night. NIU missed more tackles than any statistician could care to count. What was with NIU rushing 4 and dropping 7 all night? Their D was awful. They made an average quarterback look like Joe Montana.
It is sad to say that the conference champion of the MAC lost to Army.....at home.....by 20. I guess with the entire O line returning and Getsy at QB that Akron will be the preseason MAC favorite. ::puke::

I don't pray. And if/when I do, it's not for somebody to get over losing a football game.Bleeding Orange wrote: Everyone say a prayer for Novak and the Huskies tonight before you go to bed. I was thinking the same thing about the MAC Champ getting beaten at home by Army. What a wacky season it was in the MAC this year! I also think Akron is going to be a force next season. I see NIU and UT being the top teams in the West, and Ohio and Akron being the top teams in the East. My crystal ball tonight says NIU vs. Ohio in the MACC next season.BGGrad01 wrote:It is sad to say that the conference champion of the MAC lost to Army.....at home.....by 20. It's safe to assume that fact won't become part of the MAC television commercial we see during the games. It is sad to say that the conference champion of the MAC lost to Army.....at home.....by 20.
That's also why I feel we can win the MAC next year whether our coach is Brandon, Howdy Doody, or Snakeman.
Your crystal ball had BG with no chance at Miami(OH), too.BGSU33 wrote:My crystal ball tonight says NIU vs. Ohio in the MACC next season.
I hope for the MCB/MAC's sake that the Akron students and fans that made the trip today had a GREAT time (or at least as great a time as you could possibly have in Detroit) and head back to campus telling friends and family stories of the trip.
