Does that prove it doesn't pay to have a good/competitive OOC schedule?
And NIU played DI-AA Tennessee Tech.........their only OOC win.

You are so correct, Sir. And whether we stink up the joint or play like we did against Cinci a few years back we're happy we're going. Some folks want to boo-hoo at Toledo but I don't think we are planning on turning down any bowl games in the near future, nor should BG should that opportunity arise. And if we do stink up the joint, well, maybe ESPN watchers will remember the show that UT and BG put on at Doyt Perry two weeks ago more than the bowl game.

DId you see the stands lastnight? I feel badly becasue I will bet if akron plays memphis, memphis will bring more people than akron.
remeber while the guise is that bowls are for the teams, they are realy for making money, this could be why the DEC 1st updated bowl projections still had BGSU in the motor city bowl. now imagin if toledo and bg got bowls and neither went to the MACC game. It could happen, MACC has no garutee bid from what I have read.
You are exactly correct. If BG would have been in the West and in the same scenario that UT was and then beat UT but still didn't get into the MACC Game......BG would have been getting the GMAC Bowl bid. Would some of you BG fans still feel that it wasn't right?

I believe he had a little heads up and he definitely knew they would get that bowl. How many times did the announcers say everytime when UT was on t.v. that the 2nd bowl did not have to choose the loser of the MACC game? They also never missed an opportunity to talk about how UT travels well.

One of TU's W's was against a D-IAA squad and they did not fare well in OOC games. They bitched at us when we played IAA teams so right back at'em.
When did UT fans bitch at BG when you played a I-AA team? UT has played several I-AA schools over the years. Maybe, just maybe......a BG fan made a crack at UT for playing a I-AA school and the UT fan came back and reminded that BG fan that his school plays I-AA schools too.

I have no problem with UT in the GMAC Bowl. With that bowl played so early in the bowl season, they gotta get the matchup sooner.

We had our chance..... :x :x :x :x

You lost me somewhere in there. In 2003, I know that we were playing in the MAC Championship game, and Miami had already received a GMAC bid. The fear (and rumor) was that NIU was going to get the MCB bill if we lost the game. And we definitely thought that wasn't right.

I don't think Toledo should turn it down, and I know we wouldn't either. My only statement is that if what happened to NIU happened to us, we'd be PO'd.

If BG wins that game, we would have been in the MACC and the GMAC bowl would have been appropriate. In all fairness to NIU, last year when we got selected for the GMAC bowl, there were only 3 known bowls for us at that time. The other bowls had not opened up yet. I actually did feel it was wrong that we got the GMAC over NIU, because they had beat us head to head and they had the same record that we did. Also, the prior year in 2003 they were 9-2 with wins over Maryland and Alabama and they got no bowl. I felt like NIU deserved the bowl before we did. Now, with that said, would I give that bowl bid to NIU and say no??? absolutely NOT. Do I think UT should give back this years bowl bid? absolutely NOT. If a bowl is offered, you take it and go represent the MAC well. However, I do feel sorry for NIU. They were done wrong.

There were three known bowls but a strong suspicion that others would be available.

We're going bowling!!! I just wish you guys could be happy for us. 8)

And Flipper, is that the same questionable defense that broke one off in your *## a couple weeks ago?

Actually guys, there are a lot of things that come into play. I'm not so sure that UT will necessarily travel better than NIU would or if the "quality" wins really mean anything. I think that the name has a lot to do with it and being Northern Illinois doesn't sound as good to the casual fan as Toledo, Bowling Green, or Miami. I think that when a decision is questionable like it was this year, the nod would go to any of these three over Northern Illinois based on name alone. A team will probably bring between 5-10000 fans with them, but the bowl also needs to draw local and national interest. So, I'm not sure if BG would be in the same position if it was them instead of NIU.

Broke what? ..you gave up 31 points in regulation and close to 400 yards of TO. Your offense won that game. You gave up 35 points to NIU and Garret Wolfe is still doing laps around the Glass Bowl. You could build a graduate level math course on the score Fresno State ran up on you.

You guys played three teams with a decent or better offenses and you didn't keep any of them under 30 in regulation. Your defense SUCKS...

Please, for the love of God, try to keep it close in the GMAC...you guys have embarrassed the conference so badly in your last two bowl appearances...

Oh Flipper, Flipper, Flipper...you know: broke our Rocket off. If you get to say that our offense won us the game against you guys, why can't you say that our offense lost us the games against Fresno and CMU? I will admit that both the defense and the offense lost the game against NIU, but the defense played well in all other games. Actually, the defense did give up a lot of yards to you guys, but they still broke one off to give us the win. BTW, in regards to the bowl game, can you give us our Rocket back? We may be needing it if we expect to win that bowl game. 8)

Jeez...I can see Toledo hasn't gotten any smarter since I left...did you grow up by a chemical plant or something? There is no way you can possibly believe that your defense played well against us, NIU or Fresno..you can't be that dumb and walk upright.....wait a minute, you're not that guy I saw crawling around near Secor and Monroe last evening are you? I just thought it was a bum looking for spare change and cigarette butts, but if that's the way you normally get around town....more power to you.

Well, I will not comment on the reasons that a poster may be reduced to comments about one's intelligence, but I will discuss the defense a little more. It was my hope that you would see that I wasn't happy with the defensive performances against NIU or BG. However, I was happy to see that the defense had enough left in them to break it off in ya at the end of the game. I was also happy with the defensive performance against Fresno, especially considering the numbers they put up against the #1 team in the country. If you could send our Rocket back to 2801 W. Bancroft before the team heads south, I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks for your time, jewel. :D

Broke one off?? Seriously? Flipper won this "argument" before it was even a twinkle in your mother's eye, TR.

Breaking one off, my be-dildoed friend, would best be defined by holding us (or any other opposing team) to a touchdown or two. The ONLY thing Toledo's defense really accomplished was holding us to a field-goal in the 2nd overtime. The ONLY thing. Had BG's defense learned to COVER THE TIGHT END on 3rd down, we might not even be having this conersation! If anyone "broke off" anything, it was BG's Defense breaking one off on OURSELVES. Toledo's defense, offense, riots, or even squalor had anything to do with "breaking one off." None of that factored into the equation.

This is why the intelligence of Toledo fans usually comes into question in most debates. I don't fault Flipper at all for making that statement.

That being said, TR, I don't mean to come down on you. If anything, you are the closest thing to "respectable" that Toledo has to offer. Seriously, though, you are a great guy, but you just happen to be wrong here. Don't stop posting, because the fact that you and I and a lot of other people here get along (albeit abrasively) helps me to pretend that I have....um....how should I say...errr...respect....for your university...

Holy crap! I can't believe my Burnt Orange and Seal Brown brain even computed that last statement! I'm going to go an douse my eyes in terpentine now! I have no idea what my eyes have to do with this horrible situation, but I must be punished!
