I know this was brought up before, but how much do you have to give to be able to spread it out over 5 years? I assume there is a minimum. What if I am not a Falcon Club member but would like to use the deferred payment plan?

The Bill Lloyd Challenge to Falcon Club members was a minimum of $1,000 and you get your name on the plaque in the lobby.

If you want to make a donation to the project, there is no minimum donation and you can take up to the full five years to pay it off. I'm a big believer that every dollar helps and there is no donation too small not to matter in some way.

Stupid off topic question for San Diego Falcon:

I am looking at a trip to the LaCosta spa in Carlsbad right after Christmas. Have never been there. Is this a cool place & is the weather good?
Ineedbotox: I have never been to the LaCosta spa, but I've heard it is very nice. The weather is always good out here.

No they didn't. They had a groundbreaking ceramony to get the ball rolling. Now whether we get more money to keep the ball rolling all the way to an actual Sebo Center still remains to be seen. A groundbreaking doesn't mean a actual guarantee of a building being built at least by the assesed date.

Children, Children, construction will start. Yes, a groundbreaking was held and yes, 3 mill still needs to be raised, but it will be done. With over half raised, that is enough usually for the bankers to say go for it. More people will come on board, especially now that we are at the biggest giving time of the year (get those donations in for last minute tax deductions). As it comes above, the skeptics will see that the Sebos and Krebs weren't joking about a new facility.

Considering that it has been 15 years since the last facilty was built for athletics (Perry Field House), and a new arena has been talked about since before I was at BG from 89-93, there are bound to be skeptics. Breaking ground will only force the hand of those with big egos and big check books to put their money where there mouth is.

According the the fact sheet at the above link, the project will cost over eight million dollars, but the fundraising goal is only seven million dollars.

Where's the other 1.7 million coming from?

Falconboy....you seem to NOT want this project to move forward. Why is that?

the only thing I can figure is that he DOES think the project will happen, but he needs a good excuse to eat some bugs.

Oh no, I defintitly wan't this Sebo Center done. Its critical to our survival in the recruiting wars. My bottem line is , whether its pessamistic or whatever , I'll believe we'll have one when I see major construction start at the very least. If that bums you out then sorry. :-\

BTW I do like this webcam thing. It'll be nice to see the progress I hope we have on this thing over the year or so.

So basically you are calling Trustee and benefactor Bob Sebo a liar- that he broke ground, but won't make sure that the project goes through.

And you think that Dr. Ribeau stands out there and gives a speech and would put his reputation on the line for a project HE thinks would never get done???

Ditto for Paul Krebs.
I am sorry but you upset me so much with your doubt of the principals of this university that I could just about scream.

Can't you at least say "Hey- I'm thrilled we finally got to the groundbreaking. Won't it be great to watch it go up?"

Maybe they will ask you to cut the frickin ribbon at the opening.... :axe:

If you read the fact sheet, it lists the contractors. If that isn't enough satisfaction, I don't know what is.

On a side note, for those that think it will never happen, I remember awhile back when OSU "broke" ground on their new college of business complex. The benefactor, Max Fisher (ironically from the same hometown as Bob Sebo - Salem, Ohio), donated $24 million. Some feared that he wouldn't live to see it finished. So, they had a ground breaking ceremony. Problem was, it was two or three years before they actually started construction. They did eventually start construction after a few more big donations started coming in and did complete the project in 2000 or 2001. The funny thing is, Mr. Fisher lived to not only see it open, but lived until this past year. He was well into his 90's when he died.

I don't think we have to worry about that happening with this project, but I can see where the skeptics come from.

Sebo Center Write-up

Post by transfer2BGSU »

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Ground was broken Friday (Dec. 2) afternoon for the new Sebo Athletic Center at Bowling Green State University's Doyt Perry Stadium.

Bob and Karen Sebo (pronounced SEE-BOE) of Salem, Ohio, for whom the structure is named, contributed $3.5 million toward a goal of $7 million being raised to support construction of the facility. They, along with BGSU President Sidney Ribeau and Athletic Director Paul Krebs, took part in the groundbreaking ceremonies at the north end of Doyt Perry Stadium.

Also lifting shovels were Sharon Cook of Upper Arlington, chair of the BGSU Board of Trustees, and Falcon football linebacker Teddy Piepkow (pronounced PIP-COE) of Clark Lake, Mich., a senior marketing major and president of the BGSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

The unique, three-story structure will become the new “front door” of Perry Stadium. With approximately 42,500 square feet, the center will provide modern sports medicine-rehabilitation and strength-training facilities; a balcony overlooking the playing field; offices for the football coaches; teaching space for coaches and players; a video editing room; team meeting rooms, and a coaches' conference room.

“There are few events in a lifetime where you can look back and say, 'Boy, I remember that day,'” said Krebs, addressing the more than 100 onlookers who gathered for the groundbreaking. For the BGSU athletic department, Friday was one such day, he said.

“This is an extremely important element of a vision we have for intercollegiate athletics,” added Ribeau. The University aims to field competitive teams in every sport, and “this facility will give us an opportunity to do that,” he said.

BGSU offers 18 varsity sports and is one of only 14 schools in the nation with NCAA Division I football, hockey, and men's and women's basketball. The center will benefit all varsity sports programs and more than 430 student athletes.

Sebo, a 1958 graduate of Bowling Green, is a member of the University's Board of Trustees and a staunch supporter of Falcon athletics.

A good athletic program benefits the entire University, Sebo said. “Winning teams generate a really positive attitude” on campus, and those good feelings stay with students as they become alumni who support academic, as well as athletic, programs, he explained.

In Division I, “you really have to be strong and well-conditioned to compete,” he noted, expressing his hope that the center will contribute to the health of student-athletes and to successful recruiting and teams.

“I love BGSU, and the only thing I can say is, 'Go Falcons,'” Sebo added.

To date, 79 individual and corporate donors have pledged $5,218,730 for construction of the Sebo Athletic Center, which is scheduled for completion in 2007.

Contributions to the center are counted as part of Building Dreams: The Centennial Campaign for Bowling Green State University. The focus of the $120 million fund-raising campaign, which continues through December 2008, is to increase scholarships, enhance faculty and leadership positions, strengthen programs, build for tomorrow and sustain the University. More than $86 million already has been committed to the campaign.

The general contractor for the new facility is J. L. Judge Construction Services of Detroit, and the architects are Sink Combs Dethlefs of Denver and Technicon Design Group of Ottawa, Ohio.
