Temples new head coach

Post by MACMAN »

And the loser is.....
The Univ of virginas cavaliers own Defensive Coordinator.
I am sure he was hired by Temple last saturday durring a secret meeting at Ohio univ. where Solich sliped him a mickey, and after jorhn vanderslot raped him several times. When seen in his intoxicated state. He was more than excited about leaving a good job and program so that he could loose all credibility, to start a very awful coaching job that I thought would have gone to a well deserving middle school coach.
I would hope his first move is drop to D II where they school can at least be competitve.
what was he thinking

People probably said that about Urban Meyer once, too.

Al Golden is a very respected defensive coordinator. At one time, he was at the top of Charlie Weiss' wish list at ND, but I believe the buyout was a little too steep. I've said this all along, if Temple can just recruit NJ, PA and VA, they will be competitive, Golden is a step in the right direction for the Owls.

I agree on all counts. I don't understand why Temple has struggled so much over the years. I think they will be above .500 in the MAC within 3 years.

Option and others--I agree. Temple is perfectly positioned to compete and MAC membership is a plus for them. They are a sleeping giant.

And that is why they wanted him and he went there. First, he gets a head coaching job, which is basically every assistants ultimate job. First of all no pressure there--he goes 0-12 next year, no one is asking him to be fired. He wins 2 games, then it is a success. Second of all, the whole NJ area connection. He has been UVA's key recruiter up in NJ and around those parts, and that has been a huge area for UVA (Eugene Monroe, the #1 recruit in the nation last year per SuperPrep, Wali Lundy, 4 year starting running back, and there are others). Not a bad hire, IMHO.

Va. loses a LOT!

Tied into this topic, Virginia also lost its other coordinator to take over at Kansas St., I think, and still another asst. coach who took the Liberty job...they've got a lot of looking...and hiring to do.

61,

Very good point indeed. These guys have recruited awfully well at UVA for the past 2-3 years and there is a lot of leadership and recruiting to replace. Not to mention an ever-growing amount of heat coming from an alumni base that is not satisfied with the perrenial 7-4 and 6-5 years.

This is a great hire for Temple. The guy has lots of local connections and he's bring along D'Onfrio, a great move. This is the kind of guy they need - young, energetic, looking to make a mark.

I'm interested to see which MAC games get added to their schedule. I think they're already slated to play Buffalo. I'd bet Kent ends up there, too, giving the Owls a winnable game.
