I would be incredibly shocked to see Stanton leave early, but that's just a name that I think would compare favorably with Omar and a guy that COULD leave early.

I'm sold that Young is going pro, but not so sold on Quinn. I don't really have any basis to my thoughts on that, but for some reason I see Quinn returning for another year under the best QB Coach he'll probably ever play for.

With another year alongside Big Chuck under his belt, #1 overall could be a real possibility for Quinn (assuming Young declares this year). That's hard to pass up for a second round slot this year. Quinn and Stanton stay, Young comes out.

I thought I read somewhere that Mack Brown has never had a player leave Texas early for the NFL. Vince would be the first to do so, which would be interesting if true. With some of the players Texas has produced over Mack's eight years, I find that stat amazing.

I don't know as though NOBODY has done it, but it is true that a lot of Mack's best players have returned for their senior seasons. Guys like Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Roy Williams, Derrick Johnson, etc. That is the only thing that makes me think that Vince might not leave...I still think he's gone.

I think the same thing was true of Duke basketball a couple years ago, which was equally amazing. Was it Deng that broke that streak?

2nd Round!?!? If Quinn declares (for some reason I still don't see it) he's a top 15 this year, and would not surprise me at ALL if he goes ahead of Leinart. He's a better QB than Leinart by a long shot, and has a much higher upside. Actually I JUST heard Kiper a few minutes ago on ESPN Radio saying that he thinks Quinn goes ahead of Leinart if he declares this season and sees him as a top 10 guy, but #1 overall as a lock if he returns for next season.

really? Wow -- I hadn't heard that Quinn was that highly thought of yet. I don't think Jesus himself would go ahead of Matt Leinart the way he's been talked up (although I agree that Leinart really isn't all that special).

In that case it's obviously a much tougher decision for him.

hammb had mentioned in another post that QBs rarely get drafted in the second round and this post prompted me to check things out...

In the last five years, here are the number of quarterbacks drafted by round:

1 - 16
2 - 3 (all in 2001)
3 - 7
4 - 9
5 - 10
6 - 11
7 - 14

Anyway, just a little fodder for the discussion

Yeah, but what kind of upside would Jesus have? I mean, could he do any better than his previous performance(s)?

I think Leinart is vastly overrated. I think a lot of NFL teams think he's soft, and he's also coming off shoulder surgery.

With Quinn you're getting a good athlete with a very good arm. He's only had one truly superb year, but he has improved each of his seasons at ND. On top of that he's essentially playing in an NFL offense right now, and that cannot be understated. Guys get knocked for playing in "gimmick" offenses like ours, others will get lauded for playing in the ND pro offense.

I don't know, I really don't see Quinn leaving early, but if he does, I think he's a top level first rounder. The guy is very, very good.

No, it wasn't Deng. It was the year that Brand, Avery, and Maggette came out. It was comical because he hadn't had anyone leave early before that, and then BOOM, three in one year. I was excited cause I hate coach k.

Ahhh that's right -- for some reason I had it in my head that Maggette was from UNC.
