How in the hell is anyone equating Notre Dame with "mid-majors?" As I have always understood it, so long as Notre Dame is in the top 10 they get a BCS bid. Given Notre Dame's historic prestige, so long as they have only one or two quality losses, that isn't too difficult a task (look at this year). For a mid-major, you not only have to run the table, but you have to have a ridiculous OOC schedule on top of it while BCS teams like Texas Tech spend their OOC schedule trying only to overcome a bunch of DIAA powerhouses.

I don't want to see "mid-majors" EVER equated with Notre Dame again, because all that does is perpetuate the myth that the BCS is "working." It is not.

I think you're missing the very heavy dollop of sarcasm in that piece. I know the guy that wrote it, and he's great at writing stuff like that.

That said, he carries it on way too long, and... hold on, Vanna White is getting a massage on Wheel... okay, he carries it on way too long and it starts to get quite a bit arrogant. Other than that, he makes some good points that not only does Notre Dame stay OUT of conferences on their own will, and they're still rewarded for it, in most cases 10-12 times that of the BCS schools. ND's payout goes to ND, while the other schools split the majority of their bowl payout with the rest of the conference. As much of a pile of crap as the BCS is in general, the way it coddles ND is ridiculous. (Especially with the track record they've put up in recent years.)
