PH WR to BG?

I don't know if this has been mentioned over here or not, but I found some information about a possible WR recruit. Marc Krauss is apparently headed to BG, per these guys at least.

BTW, this kid plays in the same league as I did when I was in high school. I talked to one of my buddies when I was back home for Thanksgiving and he swore to me that this kid had the talent to play in the Big Ten (and told me that he was playing for Iowa). BG could have a steal here, especially if they get to try him out as a walk-on and save a scholarship.

Mark Krauss is NOT a candidate to be a "walk-on". He is a top notch receiver, and will receive a full scholarship, where ever he chooses to go. He is about 6'4", maybe 215#. He is also an excellent baseball player.
I certainly hope it is BG, as he also has very good speed for his size.

I know it was in the Blade last week that both BG and Toledo have offered Krauss. Insiders still has nothing on him. Rivals has him listed with no stars, but they list college choices as Boston College, Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Purdue. Maybe they all wanted him for baseball.

I talked to a Miami grad who roomed with someone now high-up in the athletic department. He says he asked his former roommate to look at this kid as well and possibly free up some scholarship money for him to be a Redskinhawk.

Hope he chooses BG though...

I have seen him play in person, he has skill. Would make a good WR/TE with BG. I hope Mark comes to play football and baseball for BG!!! Oh yeah, he also kicked their extra points and made a high percentage. Some have said he will play defense in college, I just don't see it, he is an impressive HS kid. In state final game, he caught 2 TD's and threw for 1 also.

He would be a good get for BG, but I have also heard that he may very well take the pro baseball route as he could be drafted straight out of high school.

This same thing happened to Toledo 2 years ago. We signed a guy for football that was a really good baseball, who was then drafted in the MLB draft and never attended UT.

I will take any bets from those of you that think he will sign a pro baseball contract rather than going to college!!! He is a good baseball player, that can probably play D-1, but is is a "project" yet, but has the size and speed to do it. I have seen him play quite a few games in both football and baseball, and have also talked to a number of pro scouts and college coaches. He needs to prove himself as a hitter at a higher level than "small highschool" to be a true pro prospect.

We had the same worries here about Nick Thurman a couple of years ago. He was thought by some in the Detroit media to be a 10th round or earlier pick in the MLB draft. He wasn't picked and then he flamed out here anyway.

It hasn't been mentioned here yet, but it is possible for kids to play pro baseball while they are still playing college football. Apparently your amateur status is on a sport-by-sport basis. Not sure if they're still allowed on scholarship, or have to pay their own way, but Drew Henson & Ricky Williams both played pro baseball while they played college ball. Henson did quit the football team when he signed a Major League contract that didn't allow him to play football any longer.

Just thought I'd throw it out there, that playing baseball does not prohibit a player from also playing college football.

Are you sure about that hammb? What about that Jeremy Bloom from Colorado. He played WR for the Buffaloes. IIRC, the NCAA took away his eligibility after he participated in the Winter Olympics as a snow boarder (or one of those 'extreme' sports that are now legitimate

). I'm thinking that may have had something to do with accepting endorsement money though. Not sure.

I think it' the endorsement money that was the problem. The NCAA is very touchy about athletes getting endorsement $$$ for ANYTHING.

You can be a pro at a sport and play another in college though. Kirk Gibson was drafted by the Tigers and then played a year of football at MSU, IIRC and I seem to recall John Elway playing in the Yankees system for a year before finishing up at Stanford.

Bloom fought the NCAA for a few years (even going to court) wanting to be able to receive endorsement money for skiing (or snowboarding) to cover his training expenses and all. The NCAA said NO and he ultimately told the NCAA what they could go do and he took the money. The NCAA stripped him of his eligibility.
