Burglary at the Hawk House
J4H I understand your comment about being on break. I thought about that also. But for some reason, they knew the break -in took place on Nov 22. If they didn't come back from break until the 27 or 28, how were they able to determine it took place on the 22?
Didn't Troy Smith get an envelope of $500 that got him suspended? I am not trying to spew angst against OSU. Just make light of the facts. A booster giving a player a little envelope after beating Michigan has been proven to happen at OSU. So when a player or two has a large amount of cash laying around, it just makes a person wonder what is going on.

Other than my perception of their character, Hawk is a Criminology major (wants to be in law enforcement) and Mangold a scholar athlete. Not that any of that matters, or the article from the parent. I just said I would eat 20 bugs if there was anything illegal.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:SW-MI Falcon wrote:If Hawk or Mangold were in some kind of illegal activity/illegal conduct, I will eat 20 bugsWarthog wrote:IMO, The most likely reasons that he would have that kind of cash laying around are for the most part related to some kind of illegal activity/illegal conduct. You use cash so it can't be traced.
Another suspicious item about the burgulary that I don't think has been mentioned. They say it happened like the evening/night of Nov 22, yet it was not reported to police until like Nov 28 or something. If someone stole your Xbox, $3,000 cash, and whatever else, wouldn't you call the cops right away? Unless you have something you need to coverup first.
I hate to semi-defend OSU, but I think the gap in reporting it might have had something to do with TG break at the school. Maybe someone who knows OSU's schedule could help out.
Having said that, and I'm genuinely asking this, why does it seem outrageous to you that two college-aged kids about to make a ton of money in the NFL at a program that has had a few minor incidents in the recent past would be involved in something illegal? I'm not trying to flame, I'm actually curious, regardless of what a parent says (Parents are usually not the most reliable source of information when it comes to their children.)

Gotcha. I'm not necessarily sure it's anything fishy either, i just wouldn't be surprised at all if it was a little dicey behind the scenes. One never knows with high-profile kids. I do think it would be stupid of them to accept money from a booster with NFL millions in sight so I don't think that's what happened. Stranger things have happened though.

I think part of the outrage at this has gotten twisted (although I still can't do the math on the PS2/Xbox deals... even if it was referring to the console, they still got screwed if it's worth $500), I still can't figure out the cash thing. Even with parents that are paying for their things (nothing wrong with that, it worked for me, it works for alot of kids), haven't they heard of a bank account?
And while there may not be/likely isn't anything "illegal" going on, I still think it raises enough red flags to land an aircraft.

Are they not allowed to have money because they are college football players?kdog27 wrote:Well this sure smells fowl. This whole thing could be looked at several ways and almost all of the seem shady.
1) They are listing WAY more than they actually had in the house
2) These guys are getting paid under the table
3) A parent is idiotic enough to give their kid 3 grand to mess around with. This is also shady.
how many people live in the house? Hawk and who else? did it say that hawk had 3000 stolen or thats how much combined from everyone in the house .
Everything I've read names three guys total living there (the two footballers and someone else). Even if it was divided up evenly, $1,000 in cash laying around is quite a bit of cash to have on hand because mom wants to make sure you're eating right.tekekini wrote:how many people live in the house? A mb poster who is apparently Mangold's father? said that the boys were pooling their money together so they could have fun on their bowl trip. Most college students who weren't planning on spending a week in a strip club would use their debit or credit card to have fun on a trip. Maybe that's just me but I would never carry that much cash around, especially away from home. Even if it isn't suspicious, it's definitely stupid.

how else would you propose spending your time and money on such a trip?Jacobs4Heisman wrote: Most college students who weren't planning on spending a week in a strip club would use their debit or credit card to have fun on a trip
any way you look at it, someone in the situation of a young adult probably shouldn't have 3K cash handy. i would never want to rely on the fact that i don't lose the cash en route to the trip. put it in a checking account (or, better yet, an interest bearing saving account), and withdraw it, as needed, while on the trip.

I wonder if Hawk is going to cash his million-dollar NFL paychecks and keep the cash in his mansion. I'll have to get ahold of that cat's address...

bottom line is no one knows why they had the cash...some people carry cash some dont..my grandpa carries large amounts of cash on him at all times..but he has credit cards debits cards etc... its personal choice...quit speculating and trying to make it into something that it is not.TG1996 wrote:Everything I've read names three guys total living there (the two footballers and someone else). all of your specualtion is biased towards your hate for Ohio State. Also why have I not heard about this except on here??? it must not be that big of a concern or ESPN and the NCAA would have been all over it top head line every day
