My day at Collegegameday in Orlando!!!

Post by mossmaidi »

I just returned from a mini-vacation in Orlando and had a blast. We went to MGM Studios on Saturday and to our surprise ESPN and College Gameday were there taping the show. Of course, luckily I was wearing my beloved BGSU soccer-t and represented a little bit!!! There were fans from all schools, Okla St, OU, alotta Big 12 and SEC fans and some UCF fans. Summary of the highlights:

I came across a couple of lady OU fans sporting their OU apparel and pointed out that I had a BGSU t-shirt on and was very friendly. They replied "We're sorry... you're coming to Norman!" Basically implynh that we were going to get destroyed. I had to hold myself back from unleashing a verbal assault but kept my cool and said "We will see what happens", laughing it off.

Then after the College Gameday taping I approached Kirk Herbstreit and had a brief chat. He said he noticed my BGSU-t in the crowd! He asked who was gonna win the MAC and I replied BGSU of course. My misguided cousin shouted out UT while another said Miami. I also asked him if Gameday was coming back to a MAC campus this year and he replied "We hope to", which is great news!!! I took a pic with Kirk as well. I despise OSU, but Kirk and Jim Jackson are the only Buckeyes that I like!

Finally, the highlight for me, my cousin and I were walking away from the ESPN hoopla when someone yelled out," Bowling Green! I graduated from there!". I look up and it was Jay Crawford, Host of Cold Pizza, along with Thea Andrews ( who is even hotter in person!!!). He was chatting on his cell and put that away and spent a few minutes talking to us. I told him that it was cool he always mentioned BG during the show the past year. I had no idea he went to BG until Saturday. He gladly took a pic with me. Thea Andrews I think kept walking not realizing he stopped to chat! My misguided cousin shouted out Go Rockets when he snapped the pic, instead of saying cheese, to which Jay replied "Go Falcons!!!" I seriously thought about punching my cousin when he said that lol. Jay is one cool, nice guy!!! Also, got to see Joe Namath, Jim Kelly and Stu Scott and the Jaguar cheerleaders! All in all, the highlight of the trip was that day and experiencing all that!!! I would have attached the pic with Jay, but dont know how. If anyone can help me out, I will post the pic when I figure this out.

not sure how ya get pictures up on this new system, at least not ones that aren't already uploaded to a website somewhere (in that case, you just use the "Img" button above).

Though I *did* remember a Herbstreit picture I put up here a few months ago:

If I were drunk and at a football game with Suzy Kobler, I probably would have been even more obnoxious than ol' White Shoes.

Didn't know Jay went to BG either. When they did the "Most Tortured Sports City in America", (it was Cleveland, of course :x ) he talked about growing up a fan of Cleveland sports teams. I think he is from Columbus, but never heard him say anything about Bowling Green.

Basically implynh that we were going to get destroyed. I had to hold myself back from unleashing a verbal assault but kept my cool and said "We will see what happens", laughing it off.

So...Do you think you will win? Seriously?

If we didn't think we could win, then why even play the game? Any given Saturday, any given team can lose. Remember the K-State game last year? Hell, I had OU winning it all and came up short.

Q. Do I think we will win?
A. YES. If we play our game and make no mistakes, then we will win this game.

Q. Seriously?
A. Damn right I'm serious! But you need to know this - if we do lose to OU, it does't mean much as far as our season goes. Beating you guys may make ESPN take notice again, but you guys are not as nearly important in our schedule this year as Northern Illinois, University of Toledo, and Marshall University are.

There are some people here who would be shocked if we win.

I'd merely be pleasantly surprised.

We bring so much back from a team that went 2-1 against the Big Ten last year and really hung in there against Ohio State.

Oklahoma is very good. Our team is pretty good, too.

Bowling Green can win this game.

The attitiude at Bowling Green has really changed. I was nervous as hell, sitting on the edge of my seat in the horseshoe last Septemeber as we tried to knock off the defending national champions. When the Buckeyes intercepted that pass to end the game, I was crushed. We played our hearts out, even made some big mistakes, yet we had a chance to knock off the champs on thier field. After the game, my wife told me to cheer up, I should be happy that it was such a good game. I would have agreed with her five years ago. But we have brought this program so far, all I could feel was disappointment.

I tell that story because I think that is how most of us BG fans feel. We think we can win every game. You have to have the faith that your team is going to win. How can you really put your heart into cheering for your team if you expect them to lose? So, yes, seriously, I think we can win. the odds may be against it, and it will be very tough for us, but I think we can do it. :D

And coming home to find out Marshall had beaten Kansas State and Northern Illinois had beaten Alabama was like salt in the wound.

The real salt in the wound was listening to the post game show on the OSU radio network. I was getting VERY pissed off listening to that.

I think the reference was that we wouldn't get destroyed.

I personally am torn. BG is a good team. We return most of the pieces from the #23 ranked team in the country. We were 2-1 against big 10 bowl teams last year, narrowly losing to tOSU. BUt I have seen Oklahoma destroy other "good teams."

I think it will be a resonably close game (within 14 points). No way we lose by 31 or whatever the line is now.

We can win. Ask Purdue.
