Leininger done for the season????

Post by 77 91 92 94 »

I spoke with one of the managers today and they told me that Matt rehurt his shoulder in practice this week and could need surgery again which would end his season. He didn't make the trip to Philly for tomorrow's game cuz I saw him walking on campus today. If this is true it's a huge blow to the defensive line.

That indeed is a huge blow. I hope there is no surgery needed...

Look on the bright side...if we can get a medical red-shirt for him then it will only help for the next two years as I don't want to be in the same boat as Toledo by replacing three D-line starters in the same season.

Talk about the bright side, his back-up Brad Williams forced a fumble on Temple a few minutes ago. If we continue to see improvements from Williams and are able to red-shirt Matt (if he needs surgery), this season and future seasons might not be so bad.

Hey, Brad Williams has been playing great ball recently. He is as strong as an ox and really coming into his own.

Great job Brad!

It's not all size...you've gotta have the heart too! If a smaller person lines up across from you knowing he's going to take you down, chances are it'll happen. Just watch that last play of Rudy!!!

You tell him He is too small!!! He also has an attitude. Just remember He was the very first offered a scholly by Urban M. in Feb. when Brad was a junior.

I still think he's too small to play DT against a good OL. I have nothing against the kid. He's got a great motor, great attitude, and he's got plenty of talent. I just feel the coaching staff is not putting him in the best position to succeed. Yes he had a great game today, and he will have his share over the course of his career, but you're still asking too much for him to go against Oklahoma's interior OL.

I really mean no disrespect to Mike and I'm not saying that just because his dad is a previous poster in this thread. I do think he's a good player, and he's capable of playing DT, as evidenced by his successes. He is just not being put into the best position to succeed, IMO.

ironmike, I'm with you on B. Williams. This guy looks very good to me and getting better all the time. He is a player.

Attitude is a prereq, as well you know, for a good DL. Glad to hear he has it.

This was Temple! The worst team in the Big East probably. A team with not much heart or will to win. Plus we're coming off an embarrasing loss a week ago so we were really jacked, so I'm not really surprised that Brad got some good penetration and a sack yesterday. Now, lets see him do that against CMU and Ball St. and Marshall and UT. But if Leinger is really through cuz of an injury this season, it doesn't look good at all. We'd be better off taking off the redshirts of one of our freshman lineman like Nick Davis, who's bigger than Brad is as a soph. Brad has a chance to really suceed as a DE or MLB, cuz he's got just fine size for those positions, but not DT. Man, we are really thin now at defensive line. :(

heh. I'm starting to wonder if maybe Brad Williams beat him up and stole his lunch money once in kindergarten...

At least he dropped the "a" from "Leininger". Still spelled it wrong, but most of the letters are right now...

And just who gets to sit so Williams could play DE? I think the coaches already are playing guys where they need to play. No way do I want to see a true freshman playing DL because we moved a capable player to a different position.

Let's move him to cornerback. A 260lb corner would be scary. We can make Parks the kicker. Ain't nobody going to tangle with a 240lb kicker. We can then put the fattest kid on campus at DE. That'll keep the wind from blowing the rest of the line down.

I'll play DT. I'm old, a little fat (note: I said a LITTLE fat) and slow, but I weigh 285lbs. See there, I should start...
