I predict a competitive MAC team

This team should be able to score some points with both Samarco and Wright in the lineup.

for those of you who are following the team closely what is happening with Dusan? Is he being foced to play PF because of the size crunch?

1 Wright 6-3 Sr--Robinson 5-9 So--
2 Samarco 6-3 Jr--Floyd 6-2 Jr--
3 Soler 6-5 Sr--Clements 6-4 Fr--
4 Marschall 6-7 Fr--Dusan 6-7 Fr--
5 Lefeld 6-11 Jr--

So far it seems like Marschall and Samarco have shown they will be solid playrs for BG for thier careers. What do you guys think about the other freshmen?

How much better would this team be if it had Holland and Vandermeer?

Vandameer would have helped a ton. Holland could have played but from what I hear Marshall was the better/tougher player.

Plus, we're expecting to get Moten back by the of the week (crossing my fingers!!!). So if we can stay healhty, cut down on our fouls, avoid the suspensions and play together, I feel we could be a good team in the MAC as well. I'll take my lumps in the non-conference schedule over the MAC slate. But it sure would be nice to get another win under our belts again, it's been almost a month. GO BG!!!

Vandermeer would have helped immensely. You could then go two deep at the 4 and 5 spot with Marschall and Soler at PF and Vandermeer and Lefeld at the C.

We would have been a LOT better defensively...

Competitive MAC team? Sorry, but based on what?

Losses to Western Carolina, Radford, Oakland, Bradley and Arkansas Little Rock speak volumes. It's not like they are losing to good teams. They are getting beat (and have been run out of the gym on more than one occasion) by lower tier DI teams. This team is one "oops" at VT from being 0-6 v. Division I opponents.

I would agree that they haven't been able to put their best five on the floor yet this year (Wright, Smarco, Soler, Marschall and Lefeld), but I can't believe that lineup is THAT much better than the 1-5 lineups. A little better, but they are consistently being defeated by double digits. And no where near a point to where they can compete in the MAC East (Miami twice, OU twice, Kent twice and Akron twice).

I hope I'm wrong, but this team will struggle to win 6 conferrence games.

Oakland (4-3) NCAA Tournament team from last year.
Arkansas Little Rock (4-3) Only lost to Michigan State by 5 points this year.
Bradley (3-2) Beat DePaul by 15 points this year
Radford (6-4)
Western Carolina (6-6)

And we beat Va Tech.

To say that these teams are bottom feeders in the NCAA is not factual. I think that this BG team will be competitive in the MAC conference. We haven't even lost to a team with a sub-500 record.

If you want bad teams here they are....

Stetson 0-7
NC A&T 0-5
Alcorn State 0-6

College basketball is all about guard play. Until we get solid guard play, we will not win a MAC championship. We haven't had good guard play since Pardon and Mcleod left, and we haven't sniffed a title since. That team should've made the NCAA's, and we won't be in that position again until we can get better performers at the 1-2, without having to move quality 2 guards to 3 and 4 to compensate for size issues.

This team is a long way from being competitive in a loaded division. Of course a lot can change once we see how the whole cast can work together, but there isn't much cause for optimisim with the guards we have right now.

I stand corrected. These are clearly quality Division I teams. A team that beat DePaul and one that made the NCAA Tourney last year. What was I thinking. We have nothing to worry about. We are just playing very tough competitoin.

On a side note, I have some ocean front property in Wood county. Interested?

Put down the Orange Coolaid. As noted above, this team has poor guard play, has WAY too many turnovers, and is in foul trouble every game. They will not be competitive in the MAC.

Again, I hope I'm wrong, but their play to this point tells me I'm not.

I never once claimed that these were premier teams in the NCAA...but to say that they are bad teams that we lost to is not an accurate statement at this point in the year.

Fair enough, for now. Time will tell on the quality of BG's schedule to this point. These aren't NCAA Torunament quality teams (probably not even NIT teams).

But, as you noted, right now these are .500 teams... I just can't find a silver lining in losing to (read: getting whipped by) .500 teams from conferences that are, IMO, inferior to the MAC.
