I only posted that about Wells cuz I was very skeptical about it. Wells is THEE man in the Akron area and will be going to OSU. Just thought I would post that cuz it seemed so far fetched.
Yeah, that's the most optimistic pro-Akron recruiting article I've ever read, I think :) It made me laugh though when it said something about Akron fans expecting to pull in top 100 guys. I love the MAC, but I would be shocked if the conference ever had, or ever will, get a top 100 recruit. That's setting your bar way out of your league, IMO.
Not top 100 overall...the article claims top 100 by position. We had Jacobs and Turner on the roster this past season. Both of them were top 100 QB's according to at least one recruiting service

From the article Freak posted:

"If you expected a few national TV games would get Akron a bunch of top-50 overall recruits, you were wrong. It will take about five years of prominence to get the most coveted players"

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but it sounds to me like he was talking about top 50 players, PERIOD, and that he thought they'd be able to get those types of players with 5 years of prominence. I got news for him, 5 years of prominence will not battle 100 years of tradition.

Great job of recruiting, Rob!!!! Can't believe you haven't posted yet.

One comment about BG facilities or lack of same..... I've often wondered why Perry Fieldhouse was only built with an 80 yd. field (I think that's accurate).... It seems only logical that we'd put in a full size field, but I guess 80 yds. would've been cheaper to do...and I'm afraid that's what has been driving us for a long time...If you read the article on Akron, they've spent $300 MILLION on campus and athletic facility improvements...how the heck can they raise that kind of money and we don't seem to be able to do so?

"They told me there was no reason I couldn't be competing for a starting spot as a freshman," Mahone said "That's what I wanted to hear."

I see a trend here. Not that that's bad.

You really don't need more than an 80 yard field to practice, and since there are no "games" played ther, it is more than adequate. They often divide it in half, and two different teams practice at the same time. About the only limitation in the fieldhouse, is that the kicking is limited to some extent, but still plenty of room to practice.

First some stats on the field house, Built in 1993 It cost 8.7M, so we put some money into it. Second, The Turf room is 100x60yrds. The other room is a 200m 6/8 lane track surrounding 4 basketball/volleyball courts. It also has a full sports care center and whirlpool. Akron's facility is bigger i think, with the turf being 120yrds and a 300m track and indoor track. I'm not sure how much money Akron put into the athletic side of things, 50M would get you quite a lot but they also built some other big buildings.

Does anyone know how much (if anything) Goodyear puts into Akron. Obviously I am making an assumption here, but the football stadium is the "Rubber" bowl, and their new Polymer Engineering Academic center (something to indice new tire makers with). Goodyear is such a huge part of that area of OH, and have put a lot of money into other things in the area (wingfoot lake is a pretty neat place for one).

I know that Turner was around 25 according to Rivals and around 50 accourding to Scout. I'd have to look-up Jacobs.

I'm not denying top 100 by position, not at all. Today's get, Mahone, is the #28 safety on Scout.com. I was just laughing at the Akron article mentioning top 50 overall recruits, and dropping a name like Chris Wells. If Akron ever gets a commit from a *****, surefire blue chip kid like Wells I'll eat every bug that everyone can send me.

Hamm - I didn't think that you were denying top 100. I was just adding some info as to Turner's ranking.

Cool...FWIW, I looked on scout.com and they had Omar & Turner both ranked as the #51 QB in their respective classes :)
