Hummus is mainly a dip but I like to eat this with flatbreads as a main meal in itself. Hummus comes from the Middle East I think. Normally you make hummus with tahini; ground sesame paste. It would seem rather impractical to go out and buy a whole jar of tahini just to make hummus so I used the Kewpie Deep Roasted Sesame Dressing instead. I think the taste would be slightly different, more like an Asian hummus but I loved it all the same. The dressing itself has enough salt in it so you won’t need to add additional flavouring. If I had some black olives I would also add it in but again…it is impractical to get a jar just for this dish and jarred olives aren’t cheap either.
I love to serve dips when hosting dinner gatherings. It’s less preparation, guests don’t feel like they’re breaking any diet plans, you don’t have to serve big portioned mains, it’s casual and laid-back, which ensures a relaxing atmosphere. If your guests are happy, contented and mingling…that to me, is a sign of great hosting.
HUMMUS RECIPE
Ingredients;
1 can of chickpeas / garbanzo beans (pic below)
1 clove of garlic
2 tablespoons deep roasted sesame dressing
Extra virgin olive oil
Black pepper

1. Heat water to a boil with the clove of garlic. Turn off the heat. Empty can of beans and rinse. Throw it into the hot water for 1 minute and then strain.
2. Put the beans along with the boiled garlic in a food processor. Add sesame dressing, oil, black pepper and paprika. Blend everything together to a mush.
3. Taste and adjust seasoning. Decant into a bowl. Drizzle some more oil on top and sprinkle paprika. Eat with flatbread.
