Ekitu Vows To Sustain Budget Performance Feat
Ekiti State Government has promised to consolidate on its position as best state in budget discipline and performance.
It has also earmarked N17 billion for infrastructural development across the state in the 2017 fiscal year.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in the State, Mr. Gbenga Olajide, stated this in Ado Ekiti, yesterday while giving the detailed analysis of the state 2017 budget.
He said foundation has been laid, for the feat which was achieved through transparency of Governor Ayo Fayose-led administration for the succeeding governments to build on and sustain.
“We have been adjudged number one in budget performance and discipline. We have structure and process .
MTEF which will run till 2019 is a guiding principle. The budget review always come up between July and August and the imputs of the people are sought in the preparation of the budget. All these are being put in place for coming administrations”.
The amount which represent 44 percent of the total capital budget for 2017 would be expended on the ongoing overhead bridge/flyover bridge at Ado-Ekiti, expected to consume another N3.8 billion this year and the ultra-modern market of Oja-Oba, with over N1.7 billion.
Olajide added that government has also allocated a sum of over 594 million for the various agricultural and rural development activities in the 2017 budget while a sum of over N7 billion of the total capital budget is allocated to the sector, which include education, health, information services and social development.
In the administrative sector, over N4 billion is earmarked for the sector while water provision is allocated a sum of N1 billion but N500 million is earmarked for rehabilitation, sustainability and maintenance of water schemes in the state and another N200 million for the Ero dam water supply project.
The commissioner said the focus of the 2017 budget is to complete all on-going projects as it is not the desire of the government to leave any uncompleted project for the would-be incoming administration.
The budget which was signed into law by Governor Fayose is N94,456,399,143.40. The budget in the state is expected to generate the revenues to finance the budget among other sources like Federal allocation, IGR, grants, internal loan and sundry income.
Under the Ministry of women affairs, gender empowerment and social welfare, the welfare of women and the less privileged citizens in the society will get for women empowerment N500 million, women conferences N100 million and construction of Creche N30 million.
The commissioner further stated that the overall goal of the budget is that Ekkti state will be second to none in the provision of social amenities, infrastructural development, education and security of lives and properties with the theme: “Budget of Consolidation and Higher Heights”
