Akin Adeoya Becomes Executive Secretary League Of Veteran Journalists
A veteran journalist, Akin Adeoya has emerged the new executive secretary of elitist professional body, Nigeria league of veteran journalists (NLVJ).
The league in a press statement signed by its national president Otunba Eddie Aderinokun, reveals that Adeoya’s appointment will run for a renewable period of four years.
Aderinokun said, “This apex umbrella body of Nigeria’s eminent pen-professionals has over the years helped to steady the ship of state of Nigeria during turbulent quaking and turbulent times, using symposia, lectures, seminars and talk-shops, as exemplified by patriotic concaving of journalism elders titled ‘’RESCUE NIGERIA’’ series of seminars.
“Akin Adeoya is to spearhead the overall national planning, coordination and execution of all programmes of the league. He will also see to the effective networking with local and international organisations, government and corporate brands, to generate support for the league’s nationalistic projects.”
Adeoya attended the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife where he graduated with BA (Hons),in Literature in English.
He spent years at THISDAY newspaper, distinguishing himself as a brands and marketing writer. Later he set up Nigeria’s first marketing/communications monthly, brands and products before taking the effort weekly as M2(Marketing & Management). At its peak, it was read by over 10,000 professionals.
He also went ahead to establish a frontline PR/ Marketing Communications consulting firm, MARKETINGMIX which became one of Nigeria’s most prominent communication outfits.
He also veered into hospitality and tourism business where he founded a chain of hotels, HOTEL 1960 GROUP.
The statement further revealed that the League of Veteran Journalists is also planning a special night of recognitions for journalism luminaries (past and present) at Nigeria’s October 1 independent anniversary where icons of the profession lie Dr. Moses Ekpo, current deputy Governor Akwa Ibom state, Ambassador Moses Ihonde, press secretary of the Yakubu Gowon era, elder Sam Amuka, publisher Vanguard Newspaper will be honoured.
Others to be honoured include, Nduka Obaigbena of ThisDay newspaper, Chief Ajibade Fasina-Thomas, NLVJ founding president and Elder Ben Lawrence, founding NLVJ Secretary-General, who just turned 80, Post-humus Awards will also be bestowed on Chief Anthony Enahoro, Chief AladeOdunewu (Allah-De) among others.
