Yahaya Bello Has No Right To Sack ASUU -NLC
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has no right to proscribe the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Waba made this statement in Lagos while reacting to the recent proscription of ASUU during his courtesy visit to one of union affiliates, Nigeria Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather and Non Metallic Employees (NUCFRLANMPE).
It would be recalled that Governor Yaya Bello of Kogi suspended the activities of ASUU in the State due to the refusal of the Kogi State University (KSU) chapter to call off their protracted strike after meeting 90 percent of their demands.
Bello, who spoke in Government House, Lokoja, after a council deliberation on the matter declared all activities of ASUU in the university as illegal from 19th, July 2017.
” Kogi is one of the worse State in Nigeria in the area of owing workers salary. We are calling the state governor to order to retract his statement. Owing workers salary is an aberration. Those who advised him to take such step should be sacked.
Comrade Waba therefore called on Nigerian workers to get their voters card before 2019 general election, saying this will give them right to ease out bad leaders and support the good ones among them.
The NLC President reiterated that the situation of Nigeria will not change if the unions are not doing what is expected of them.
