6 Policemen Arrested For Extortion, Defilement
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni Monday said six policemen had been arrested for extortion, defilement and attempted murder.
According the CP, two of the suspects were arrested for defilement, two for misconduct and two others for extortion at gun point, adding that they have been dismissed.
Owoseni added that the policemen dismissed for extortion at gun point move around the metropolis, looking for unsuspecting members of the public and brand them as internet fraudsters.
Meanwhile, the four other policemen arrested were undergoing orderly room trial for attempted murder and defilement.
Owoseni, who also confirmed the arrest, said two of the policemen were arrested at Ajao Estate where they were shooting sporadically.
He said no policeman will be allowed to take laws into their hands and they will go through orderly room trial before they will be charged to court.
Owoseni however said that 24 robbery suspects, 19 suspected cultists and three kidnap suspects were also arrested in the last one month.
He said that two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspects while some dangerous weapons including 88 different charms and 16 different vehicles were recovered from the suspected cultists.
The Police boss added that a group of drivers who specialize in robbing passengers in their commercial bus otherwise known as ‘op one chance’ were also arrested and phones stolen from victims had been recovered.
The Police commissioner has appealed to the public to collaborate with the police to prosecute erring police officers who carry out unprofessional activities using the police uniform and guns.
