Adeshina Ogunkoya Preaches Unity
Hon Adeshina Ogunkoya was for 12 years, a honorable member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Apart from being a politician, he is also a public analyst who says things as they are.
The Glitters online ran into the Honorable last week at a social gathering and when he spoke about Nigeria’s unity, he postulated that there was nothing that could make Nigeria to break up.
“I have been in politics for many years and when I speak about Nigeria politics or unity, I am an authority. Don’t forget that I was a member in the house of Assembly for 12 years, from 1999 to 2011. 12 years is not a joke.
“During my time, we make solid foundation for democracy as far as Lagos is concerned and Nigeria as a whole. We laid the foundation, though we are not quite there yet at 57. Comparing us to the United States, even as the acclaimed giant of Africa, we still need to be nurtured.
“All I know is that we have no other country. The unity of Nigeria is non negotiable though we may have different opinions or ideas, but we will still remain as one. Even in a family, we do have misunderstandings. If we don’t have all these issues, we will not learn to be one.
“Remember in 1967 when we went to war, we came back and counted our losses. Like it’s always said, no country wants to go to war twice. We can’t afford to go to war again. Crying out our agitations does not mean we want to go to war. There is no way we can live without these little misunderstandings. God is always with us”.
When asked of his future political plans, he waved it aside and said “For now, I don’t know what the future holds”.
