Katsina Govt Trains 60 Journalists On Poultry, Fishery, Bee-keeping
Not fewer than 60 journalists from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Katsina State Council have been trained in Poultry, Fishery and Bee-keeping farming by the Katsina State government.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State while declaring open the 3-day training organized for the journalists by the government through it State Economic Empowerment Directorate, KASEED, said the training was to provide the journalists with a window of sustainable means of livelihood after active year of service.
The Governor represented by his Special Adviser on Economic Empowerment, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir said the journalists would also be trained on entrepreneurship development after the training to become businessmen and women using the skills acquired from the training.
According to him, “Poultry, Fishery and Bee-keeping are cardinal aspect of Agriculture development and economic empowerment that if well harnessed can provide not only means of livelihood to the operator of the business but has chain of effects on the economy of the people that lives around.
“The training is to provide a window of sustainable livelihood for the journalist after active year of service in Journalism.
“Sixty of the journalists will also be trained in Entrepreneurship development to turn them to business men and women using the skills they acquired from the training.
“After the entrepreneurship training, we are going to subject you to submit a business proposal after which all those who score 40% and above will be provided with window of funding opportunity by the state government to start the business.
“We would like to see Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Bank of Agriculture, BOI, State Ministry of Agriculture to be part of the training because the training will be further driven by funding,” Governor Masari said.
Earlier, the Director, Business Development, KASEED, Abdulrahman Abdu said the journalists are expected at the end of the training to spread the message across as agent or medium for awareness creation while urging them to also put into practice skills acquired from the training.
Abdu said it selected the journalists to help it propel, amplify and spread the message across the world on the three aspects of poultry, fishery and bee-keeping which can turn the lives of the people around for good with little capitals.
The State Chairman, NUJ Katsina State Council, Buhari Mamman Daura assured to judiciously put to use skills acquired from the training.
Represented by the Secretary, Tukur Dan-Ali, the Chairman described the training as first of its kind for Journalists in the state while commending the state government and organizers for deeming it fit to consider the journalists in the empowerment programmes.
