Catholic Church To Protest Killings In Nigeria Tuesday
Following killings in different parts of the country, the Catholics on Monday said it will tomorrow (Tuesday) embark on solemn peaceful protests across the country to register their grievances against the terrorists’ act that led to the death of two of its priests and 17 other worshipers in the church.
According to the church, the protests will coincide with the burial of two priests and 17 parishioners killed by marauding herdsmen last month.
According to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), the protests were aimed at showing the Church’s displeasure about the incessant killings going on in different parts of the country.
Reverend Fathers Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha and 17 worshippers were at a morning Mass when the killers struck at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Ukpor-Mbalom, Gwer East LocL Government Area of Benue State on April 24.
It was gathered that Tuesday’s demonstrations will hold in major cities across the country.
In Ibadan, the solemn protests being organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan will begin with a procession from the Seminary of SS Peter and Paul, Bodija, and end at the Governor’s office.
Similar rallies will hold in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and cities.
It was learnt that the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos will hold a requiem mass for the two slain priests at St. Leo Catholic Church, Ikeja, by 10.00 a.m. and immediately after the mass, there will be a peaceful procession from the church to the Lagos State Governor’s Office at Alausa, Ikeja.
