ASUU Decries Neglect Of LAUTECH
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo Monday, the union led by the Zonal Coordinator, Ibadan Zone of ASUU, Dr. Ade Adejumo, hinted that the institution is on the brink of final disintegration if immediate action is not taken by the states concerned.
LAUTECH is currently on a two week warning strike to press home their demand adequate funding of the University by the two states, payments of 10 months salaries areas and other entitlements.
The union noted that with the ‘I don’t care’ disposition of the two owner states, it became obvious that they want the management of the institution to source for fund to run the University, which according to them is not practicable if they don’t want to force many of the students into criminality because their parents cannot afford high school fees.
His words: “We are not so much concerned about almost 10 months arrears, promotion arrears, we are concerned about non-funding of the University. It is no longer inadequate funding, it is non-funding.
They noted that the Memorandum of Action, MoA, signed before the last strike was called off has not been respected by the government. They alleged that the Governors have turned their back to the University.
According to the union, many lecturers have left while many have retired, and there has not been replacement, thus, making the institution understaffed.
The union called on the Governors of Oyo and Osun to let the general public know if they are tired and could no longer fund the University, saying “the two Governors are encouraging criminalities by insisting that they survive on IGR.
“They should come out and disclose their plans for LAUTECH. If they want to liquidate the University, they should be bold enough to tell the whole world that they are liquidating the University.
