Osinbajo Delivers UNIOSUN Convocation Lecture As Akande, Aregbesola Bag Doctoral Degrees

Few days to the inauguration of Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola as governor of Osun,  Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo will on November 22 deliver the Osun State University Convocation lecture as part of the university’s 7th convocation ceremonies.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Labode Popoola while addressing newsmen Thursday in Osogbo on activities for the convocation ceremonies disclosed that Osinbajo will be speaking on the topic: “Six Decades of Chequered Nationhood: Nigeria Still Holds the Key to Africa’s Development”.
According to him, as part of the convocation ceremonies also, the outgoing governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, Chief Adebisi Akande, and Dr. Olayiwola Francis Fatona will be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees in Engineering, Letters and Sciences respectfully.
According to him, 1,647 students will be conferred with first degrees across the colleges of the University while the first set of postgraduate students of the University would be conferred with Masters degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas across different programmes.
Giving the breakdown of the graduating students, Popoola said 62 students will be awarded First Class, 693, Second Class Upper division, 756, Second Class lower, 131 Third Class honours while 5 students will be awarded the pass degrees.
Professor Popoola further disclosed that the Chancellor of the  institution, Mrs Folorunso Alakija will lay the foundation of the University’s teaching hospital as part of ceremonies for the convocation.
Among the achievements of the university according to the Vice Chancellor was the recent verification of twenty-three new programmes by the National University Commission adding that the institution is currently running 47 undergraduate programmes and 13 postgraduate programmes.
According to him, the new approvals brings the total of undergraduate programmes in the university to 56, while postgraduate programmes now clocks 27 adding that the University’s professional programmes have also been accredited by various bodies.
