Osun PDP West Senatorial ticket: Parties To know Fate Before Election – Court
Barely six weeks to the National Assembly elections, a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has declared that it would hear and do justice to a suit bordering on Osun West Senatorial ticket of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.
A former governorship aspirant of the party, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi had dragged the candidate of the party for Osun West Senatorial District, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, the gubernatorial candidate of of the party in the last governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over the emergence of Oyewumi.
The presiding judge, Honourable Justice Peter Lifu had earlier granted exparte order to serve Akogun Lere Oyewumi and Senator Ademola Adeleke the originating summon through substituted means when the court was then told that the respondents were alleged to be evading service. The court thereafter fixed January 16, 2019 for hearing.
At the resumed hearing on yesterday, Barrister Dosu Babatunde, counsel to Akogun Lere Oyewumi who is the first respondent in the suit, served the plaintiff a preliminary objection to the originating summon.
Ogunbiyi’s lead counsel; Abeni O Muhammed, SAN acknowledged receipt of the preliminary objection and requested for shortest possible adjournment date, in order to file his response.
Honourable Justice Peter Lifu adjourned the matter till 28th of January on agreed consent of the counsels. He stressed that the originating summon and preliminary objections would be heard on the agreed date.
