APC Wins 2 Senatorial Seats In Ogun

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has won the Saturday’s Ogun-West Senatorial election held in the state.

The Returning Officer, Professor Taofeek Shittu Tuesday declared the APC candidate, Chief Tolu Odebiyi as the winner having polled the highest votes of 58,452 in the election.

Odebiyi, who was the former Chief Of Staff to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state, defeated his closest rival and candidate of the Allied  Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Olusegun Gbeleyi who scored a total of  48, 611 votes, while Hon. Leye Odunjo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 43,454 votes.

INEC had earlier on Sunday declared governor Amosun who contested on the platform of the APC as winner of the Ogun Central Senatorial polls held last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Odebiyi who is the former Chief of Staff to the Ogun government has dedicated his victory to, “All those who have endured indignities but remained principled on behalf of the people of Ogun – West.

Odebiyi, in a statement issued in Iboro, Egbado-North Council Area on Tuesday, expressed gratitude to the people of the area for the opportunity extended to him to serve.

“I will continue to stand with you shoulder to shoulder in raising higher the flag of progress and prosperity for the people of Ogun West”.

Meanwhile, the Senatorial election held for Ogun East senatorial district was declared inconclusive due to the crisis which broke out in the process of sorting out and declaring of the result of the election.

The INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Abdulganiy Raji had told journalists that result of the election held at Polling Unit 06 of Ajebamdele Ward in Ogun East local government was characterised by malpractices which necessitated its being declared inconclusive.
