I’m Leaving No Debt For Incoming Gov — Al-Makura

 

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has said he is not leaving behind any debt for the governor-elect, Abdullahi Sule, though he inherited N40 billion debt on assumption of office in 2011.

The governor who spoke, Wednesday, at the inauguration of a transition committee and board of some state government institutions in Lafia said his government had cleared all the debts inherited from past administrations.

According to him, “the next administration under the governor – elect, Abdullahi Sule, will take off on a clean slate as all the debts owed by the state have been cleared.”

Al-Makura said all the loans collected to execute capital projects had been paid off in addition to clearing the N40 billion debt inherited, explaining that the inauguration of the transition committee became necessary to fast-track the process for a smooth handover of the mantle of leadership to the newly elected governor.

He said: “I approved the composition of a high powered transition committee to set the stage, guide and champion the process towards smooth and seamless transition to sustain the progress and development of Nasarawa State.

“The committee is set up to serve as a veritable tools for the holistic evaluation of my stewardship and the performance of this administration during my tenure in office.”
