Fayemi Signs 8 Bills Into Law

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday signed eight bills into law, saying members of the outgoing fifth Ekiti State House of Assembly have demonstrated uncommon feat as ‘exemplar of Ekiti party’ who worked for the development of the state.

The governor who spoke in Ado Ekiti while signing the eight bills into laws commended the lawmakers for cooperating with the executive arms of government in last eight months in spite of political differences.

Fayemi who pointed out that he enjoyed a robust relationship with the lawmakers, who are predominantly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said: “They displayed extra ordinary cooperation based on their love for our dear state. You are all exemplar of Ekiti party.”

The bills signed into law at an event marking the end of the legislative duties of the 5th Ekiti Assembly are:  Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency Law 2019 , Ekiti State Administration of  civil justice Law 2019, College of Agriculture and Technology  Reenactment Law 2019.

Others are:  Ekiti State Logo Reenactment Law 2019, Ekiti State Local Government Administration Law 2019,  Ekiti state property protection and anti Land Grabbing law 2019, Ekiti State Security Trust Fund Amendment Law 2019, Ekiti State Waste Management Authority Repeal Law 2019.

Fayemi assured that state government will continue to demonstrate strong political will in the implementation of the existing and new laws for the overall development of the state.

He said: “history is made in different forms, but I consider our partnership as historic partnership not minding that many of you came from the PDP while the executive arm that took over October 16 , 2018 was from the APC. Some believed that the two parties can’t have point of engagement, but this was not so.

“I cannot recall any time in the last 20 years when eight bills were signed into laws, so this is significant. These are laws really matter and will make positive difference in the lives of our people.

“As you have rounding off today, this is not the end of the road for you. That culture of belonging to Ekiti party must continue.”

Earlier in his address, the Speaker of the House, Hon Adeniran Alagbada, disclosed that ten bills were passed by the Assembly since Fayemi assumed office last year October.

“We also thank his Excellency for the South African trip. This journey had enriched our knowledge of legislation and I know the Clerk will relay such knowledge to our successors to guide them in their duties.

“We must learn how to separate politics from governance, by doing our best and operate with love in whatever capacity we find ourselves.

“The last four years have been so eventful. We have come, we saw and we have conquered “, he said.
