Court Jails Man For Exporting Cocaine Via NIPOST 3 Years
A Federal High Court, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced a 55 years old man, Mr Francis Charles Okafor, to three years imprisonment for Illegally dealing in Cocaine.
According to the Criminal charge filed and argued by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) prosecutor, Mr Adekunle Adebajo, the convict was alleged to have sometimes on April 2013 attempted to export 300 grammes of cocaine, a narcotic drug without lawful authority.
Following the convicts change of plea, the facts of the matter was reviewed with the tendering of his statement, request for scientific aid form, reports of drug analysis, transparent evidence pouch containing remnant of the drug and the defendant’s ECOWAS passport.
The defendant, in his alocutor pleaded with the court for leniency adding that his remorseful of his action and has promised never to go into crime.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo said “I have considered the evidence before me, and the plea of the convict for mercy and never to go into crime again and the fact that that there was no record of previous conviction, I hereby sentence  the convict to three years imprisonment beginning from the his bail was revoked in 2017”.
The charge against the convict reads “that you Francis Charles Okafor, Male, Adult, on or about the 8th day of April, 2013, at E.M.S. NIPOST Office in lkeja, Lagos,within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court possessed 300 grammes of Cocaine a narcotic drug without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 20(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act CAP N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004”.
