2 Die, 9 Injured In Multiple Ibadan-Lagos Expressway Crash
At least two people have been confirmed dead, while nine others sustained serious injuries in a multiple accident which occurred over the weekend along the Ibadan – Lagos expressway.
It was gathered that the accident, which occurred at Isara – Remand in the Ogere Toll Gate axis of the expressway around 8: 30 Saturday night involved six vehicles consisting of two trailer trucks, two cars and two passengers’ buses.
Ogun state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Clement Oladele who confirmed the accident to newsmen on Sunday, attributed the crash to “wrongful overtaking caused by excessive speed inappropriate for the construction zone”.
Oladele gave particulars of the vehicles involved in the crash to include a Toyota buses with registration number XR 516 KG and KUJ 186 XB Others are: Nissan Truck marked KJA 785 XN; a Toyota car marked LSD 435 FK, another black KIA car marked LND 866 BA as well as a LEYLAND trailer truck which registration number could not be ascertained.
The FRSC Sector Commander however, explained that the injured victims were rescued and taken to a private hospital in Ogere for medical attention, while corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the morgue of another private hospital in Ipara.
The FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander who commiserated with the families of the crash victims told them to contact the FRSC Command in Ogere or the medical facilities mentioned above for additional information on the crash.
“The Sector Commander is once again admonishing Motorists to remember that the entire stretch of the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway is a construction zone and motorists should therefore endeavour to respect traffic regulations regarding construction zones where speed should not exceed 50 kilometers per hour and overtaking is also prohibited at diversion points,” he said.
