Court Remands Man In Correction Facility Over N865,000 Fraud In Osun

One Olaniyan Akinniyi, (37) was Monday remanded in correction facility by an Osun State Magistrates’s Court sitting in Ile-Ife over alleged N865,000 fraud

Olaniyan who had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and breach of public peace slammed on him was denied bail.

The Prosecutor, Insp Monday Ojiezele, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in June, 2019 at Iremo Street, Ile-Ife.

Ojiezele said that Olaniyan stole and converted the sum of N865,100 realised from a Volvo FM7 Lorry with Reg No: APM 234 XA which he received on behalf of Oluyomi Adenuga for transportation business to his own use.

He added that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by receiving a Volvo FM7 Lorry with Reg No: APM 234 XA from Oluyomi Adenuga for transportation  and refused to deliver the money realised from the vehicle to the owner.

The prosecutor stated further that the offence contravened sections 249(d), 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term and pledged that his client would not jump bail, but stand his case.

Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi refused the bail application  and ordered for the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife correction custody.

He adjourned the case until Sept 13, for hearing.
