Investment In Personal Development Critical To Poverty Eradication – Fashola
The Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has emphasized the need to improve the capacity of personnel through regular training in order to improve their knowledge and skill which would be beneficial to them in the management of their profession and family.
Fashola said, “it is important to invest in the development of personnel. The more skill you have, the better you become to be able to run your business. People who have knowledge and skills are certainly moving out of poverty.”
The Minister who was accompanied by the Minister of State for Woks and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the views expressed by the Students during their interaction with them as the students expressed satisfaction with the training in the school.
However, at the prompting of Fashola, the students mentioned inadequate classrooms and equipment as their challenges. In reaction, the Minister who acknowledged the need to improve the learning environment promised that the Ministry would look into the problems. He added that the Minister of State would help to articulate for the Ministry what a Standard workshop and classrooms for Technical Education should be, since he has the professional knowledge.
Speaking earlier, the Director, Engineering Services of the Ministry, Engineer Julius Olurinola who conducted the Ministers round the school, disclosed that the school has the capacity for one hundred students but currently had fifty-seven students in session.
He said the school offered nine subjects, which included Mathematics, English, Management, Mechanical Engineering and Practicals. He disclosed that the duration of the training programme was six months.
Engineer Olurinola disclosed that the students were on grade level seven from different Ministries, Departments and Agencies, added that they were mostly school certificate holders.
The places inspected by the Ministers were the classrooms, the signage room where sign posts are produced, Octagonal machines for making electric poles and Foundry workshop used for various fabrication.
