Motor Boy Bags 3 Years For Hawking Indian Hemp

A motor boy, Manga Afebende, who was arrested for unlawful dealing in Indian hemp, has been convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment, by a Federal High Court, Lagos.

The convict, a motor boy of a water tanker, was arrested in May 19, 2019, with 430 grams of the banned ‘weeds’ by the operatives of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Following his arrest, he was arraigned on December 12, before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, on a count charge of unlawful dealing in narcotics similar to cocaine, heroin and LSD.

The offence according to the prosecutor, Mr. Ichakpa Oigoga, contravened section 11(1) of NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The convict had pleaded guilty to the charge, the situation that paved way for the prosecutor, Oigoga, to review the fact of the charge against the convict.

In reviewing the fact of the charge, the prosecutor narrated to court how the convict was arrested on Thompson Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos, with the banned weeds, and tendered same before the court.

The prosecutor also tendered the convict’s statements, laboratory test analysis and the bulk of the confiscated ‘weed’.

After admitting the exhibits by the court, the prosecutor urged the court to convict the defendant and sentence him as prescribed by the NDLEA Act.

The convict, in his plea for mercy, to the court that he became remorseful during is stay in detention and promised not to go back to the illicit act, if giving second chance.

Justice Oweibo, after listening to the prosecutor and the convict’s plea for mercy, held that: “I have listened to the submissions of the prosecutor as well as the plea for mercy of the convict.

“The convict is hereby sentenced to three years imprisonment, starting from May 19, when he been in custody”.

Justice Oweibo counselled the convict to use his stay in prison to turn a new leaf and not to go back to crimes again
