Man To Spend Two Years In Jail For Smuggling Hard Drugs To Prison Inmate
A middle-aged man, Adamu Muhammed, has been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment, by a Federal High Court, Lagos, for smuggling Indian hemp and Tramadol to an inmate of the Ikoyi Facility of Nigerian Correctional services (NCS).
The convict was arrested by the men of NCS on June 10, 2019, by the men of Correctional Services with 450 grams of Indian hemp also called marijuana and 5 grams of Tramadol, while attempting to deliver them to an inmate of the facility named Anas Musa.
Upon his arrest, he was handed over to the men of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who brought him before the court sometimes in December 2019, on two counts charge of unlawful possession of the said banned weeds and drugs.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, Mr. Fingere Dinneys at contrary to 20(1)(a) and punishable under Section 20(2)(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The convict had pleaded guilty when first arraigned before the court and asked court leniency while also promised not to engage in had drug peddling.
Sentencing the convict on Wednesday, Justice Rilwan Aikawa sentenced him to two years imprisonment starting from when he was arrested.
Justice Aikawa admonished the convict to use his jail years to turn a new leaf and desist from aiding crimes.
