Man Machete 50-Years Old Female Neighbour To Death In Ogun Over Argument
Operatives of the Ogun state police command on Sunday said they have arrested a 27 – years old man identified as Ejike Okata for machetting his female neighbour to death over a minor argument.
The Ebonyi state born Okata, allegedly committed the crime last Friday, February 28th at Aiyegbami axis of Ijebu – Ode town and fled the scene for a possible onward movement to his state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, also identified the victim as a 50-years old Adeyiba Oladipupo.
Oyeyemi explained that police detectives who had since Friday laid an ambush for him, eventually arrested the suspect at the motor park where he was attempting to board the vehicle back to his state.
“The younger brother to the deceased had reported at Obalende police station in Ijebu – Ode on Friday 28th February 2020 that his elder sister who resided at Ayegbami area of Ijebu – Ode was macheted to death by his neighbour over a minor argument and that the suspect has ran away immediately after the incident.
“Upon the report, the DPO Obalende division CSP Omonijo Sunday mobilized his detectives to the scene where the corpse of the victim was recovered and taken to ijebu ode general hospital mortuary for autopsy, while serious manhunt was launched for the fleeing suspect.
“Efforts of the detectives yielded positive result today (1st of March 2020) when the suspect was about boarding an Ebonyi state-bound motor but was apprehended by policemen who have already laid an ambush for him due to intelligence information they already have about him.
“On interrogation, the suspect who hailed from Onueke in Eza south local government area of Ebonyi state confessed matcheting the deceased to death because she accused him of stolen a phone which infuriated him.
“He confessed further that he cut off the woman’s two hands because she wanted to struggle the Cutlass with him’’.
The PPRO however, disclosed that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
