EKSG Flags Off COVID 19 Vaccination
 As Fayemi, others get vaccinated.
In Furtherance of his efforts and responsibility to keep Ekiti State residents safe and healthy, the Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi has flagged off Covid 19 Vaccination campaigns in the state.
Dr Fayemi who noted this at the event which took place at Fajuyi Pavilion, Ado Ekiti said it was a watershed in the history of the state, explained that the pandemic has caused significant disruption to the health and economy of nations since its outbreak a year ago.
“Last one year has been an incredibly challenging year for nearly all the countries of the world including Nigeria. The pandemic has led to loss of lives and livelihood, crippled economies and brought countries to a standstill. This has been the largest pandemic in modern time.”
The Governor stated that
with the development of these vaccines, everyone would be protected against the deadly virus.
He said that the vaccines have been stress tested with clinical trials conducted to guarantee its safety for humans noting that NAFDAC has subjected the vaccines to multiple tests and analysis and affirmed that they were not injurious in any form to the people.
‘In demonstration of its safety, the President and Vice President of Nigeria and other top functionaries of government at Federal level had publicly taken their first doses of the vaccines”. The Governor stated.
Dr Fayemi noted that the demonstration became necessary in view of the unfounded theories about the efficacy and effects of the vaccines on people.
He said It has been proven that there is no iota of truth to these misgivings as they are not premised on any fact known to medical science and globally established protocols.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr Oyebanji Filani noted that the State government has been proactive in handling the Covid 19 pandemic.
Dr Filani recalled that the state took necessary preventive measures by establishing a Covid 19 task force in March 2020, strengthening the state testing capacity by procuring a molecular laboratory as well as procuring solar refrigerators for secondary and primary health facilities across the state.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the state has tested 13,578 with 838 confirmed positive cases. He noted that the state has established isolation centres in Oba Adejugbe General Hospital and EKSUTH with capacity to manage 110 cases at any point in time.
He appealed to Ekiti state residents to ignore conspiracy theorists and their prompters and come out in large numbers to get vaccinated.
“We should not introduce unnecessary sentiments to the health and wellbeing of our people for whatever reasons. It’s incumbent on all of us to jointly fight the common enemy that Covid 19 has turned out to be”. He urged.
The Flag off ceremony was attended by the wife of the governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi top government functionaries, traditional rulers and health workers. While the governor Dr Kayode Fayemi led other officials to take the first doses of the vaccine.
