Ebonyi Inaugurates 21-Member Committee To Reposition EBSU

Ebonyi State Government has inaugurated 21 member committees to reposition the Ebonyi State University.
The Committee was Inaugurated at old Executive Council chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, on Friday, with Governor David Umahi expressing concern over the current trend of events in the University.
Deputy Governor, Dr Kelechi Igwe, who represented the Governor, said the quality of the institution is gradually reducing. ” There was a time EBSU was rated as one of the best Universities in Nigeria because of the quality of graduates they produced, but today we are suspicious that those shoulders that were raised high those days may be gradually reducing, the Governor said “
The Governor said government is also worried about the misunderstanding between between the staff, students and management of the University especially the Unions.
He however charged the visitation panel to among other things visit other institutions in South East zone to ascertain their contemporary management approach to various challenges confronting higher institutions of learning.
In addition , the Governor charged them to also visit the State university to compare notes based on their findings from other institutions and make appropriate recommendations to government on what should be down to reposition the University.
Earlier , the Secretary to the State Government and coordinating commissioner, Dr Kenneth Ugbala expressed confidence on the credibility and capacity of the panel to come up with far-reaching recommendations that will improve quality of learning in the University.
In an acceptance speech, the chairman of the panel, Prof. Selina Oko assured the Governor that the panel will be thorough in finding lasting solutions to challenges confronting the University.
