Saraki To EFCC: Even Govt Agencies Should Obey Court Orders
Following Wenesdday’s sitting of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on the Fundamental Human Rights Enforcement matter filed by the former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki wherein the counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), made some spurious allegations that have been sensationalised in the media, it is important to state that:
Dr. Saraki is not interested in hindering the EFCC from performing its duties. The order of the Court which restrained the EFCC from taking any malicious action against the plaintiff is what it is: An order of the Court not an order given by Dr. Saraki against the EFCC. Hence, every individual, agency and organisation must obey a court order for as long as it subsists.
If the EFCC believes that it has valid grounds to vacate the order, it knows what to do and definitely spinning new stories in the social and mass media is not one of the legal options to achieve this.
It is surprising that the EFCC in the report it is spinning in the media did not mention how the judge rebuked its lawyers for not diligently pursuing the case.
Dr. Saraki however insists that in the performance of its duties, the EFCC must respect his fundamental human rights as well as follow due process at all times and in all situations.
