Two Alleged Internet Fraudsters Admit Impersonating Foreigners
Two alleged internet fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo, Yahoo boys, George Nnamdi Ifeanyi, and Muibi Azeez Bolaji Wednesday, admitted before a Lagos Federal High Court, that they impersonated, two foreigners, George Alexander and Jenny C. Crown.
The offence is Contrary to and punishable under section Section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015.
The two defendants, admitted committing the alleged crime, after they both pleaded guilty to a count each made against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
The EFCC through its prosecutor, Uduak Kufre, leading H. K. Alabi, told the court that George Nnamdi Ifeanyi, committed the offence sometimes in 2021, by claiming to be one George Alexander in his Gmail chart.
The prosecutor also told the court that Muibi Azeez Bolaji, in his Hangout App profile, claimed to be one Jenny C. Crown.
He told the court that both Ifeanyi and Bolaji, with intent to gain advantage for themselves.
The two defendants pleaded guilty when the charge was read to them separately.
Following their plea of guilty, the prosecutor, asked the court for a short date, to review the facts of the offence.
The presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro, adjourned the matter till February 23, for fact review. The judge also ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) facility.
