MURIC Urges Muslims To Take Active Part In Politics

The Muslims Rights Concern, MURIC, has urged Muslims in Nigeria to participate fully in politics so that those who do not have their interests at heart won’t lord it over them.

The Director of the group, Professor Ishaq Akintola made the appeal in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday while addressing the media after a picnic by the group to the newly built Obafemi Awolowo Train Station in Ibadan.

He said that Muslims should be fully involved in politics in other to protect their interests and ensured that enemies of Islam do not continue to marginalize Islam and Muslims in the country.

‘We at MURIC are for promoting, protecting, and projecting the interests of Muslims in the country.

‘One way of projecting Islam and to also promote it is to ensure that Muslims take active part in partisan politics.

‘Look at what is going on in the country now on the issue of Hijab, despite the fact that it is recognized in our laws that there shall be freedom of religion and that our women must dress with their head covered, many enemies of Islam are just not happy with that simple instruction from Allah.

‘Why should the covering of head by Muslims become a problem in Nigeria? Even Mary the Mother of Jesus has her head covered in most pictures we have seen of her.

‘It is for these reasons that Muslims must be interested in whoever is planning to rule over us. We must not shy away from politics. We should be fully involved,’ he stated.

Professor Akintola said that the picnic was organized for members in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States to enable them relax and also witnessed firsthand the transformation taking place in the Transport sector.

“What we have found out is that a lot of work has been done in the Transport sector as the railway system has been completely revitalized under President Muhammadu Buhari.

‘We complain when governments are not doing the right thing and we should be bold enough to also commend them when they are working.

‘What we have witnessed today is a complete transformation of the railway sector and we should praise President Buhari,’ he said.
