Provost, Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun, Prof. Jimoh Atanda Afolabi has charged all stakeholders including government at all levels, parents, teachers/lecturers, students to be actively involved in raising the bar of standard of education in the country.
Speaking at an interactive session with journalists at Ila Orangun, Osun State, the provost attributed the giant stride in infrastructural development on the campus of his institution to good leadership.
He regretted that endemic mismanagement of fund in the past hindered visible physical developments in the institution even in the days of massive enrollment of students when internally generated revenue was at its peak.
While commending the efforts of his immediate predecessor, Prof. Oyewole and the College Bursar, Dr. Olarewaju Oyedeji for their commitment infrastructural development in the school, Afolabi said his resolve to emulate the laudable achievement informed the massive infrastructural development as being witnessed on the campus today.
Corroborating his submissions, the College Bursar, Dr. Olarewaju Oyedeji noted that what the institution was doing differently that cumulated in the gigantic structures littering the campus was achieved through probity, transparency, accountability and prudence adding that he was able to sanitise the bursary department when he came on board.
His words: “What we are doing differently is transparency, probity and accountability. I remember when I came on board we invited auditors to come and audit what we have on ground and where I’m starting from so that at the point of exit, I would be able to evaluate what I meet on ground and what I’m leaving behind”.
He noted that it was difficult for the institution to access fund from Tetfund when he came on board because it has already been blacklisted due to mismanagement of fund adding that Tetfund insisted that the institution must right all that was wrong to access any fund again which he said they did.
“I want to tell you that we’ve recovered over #100M from various people, we then wrote Tetfund that, this is the money EFCC recovered and has been paid back into the college pause, pls can we use this money to continue the projects we requested fund for, and Tetfund approved It.
