NUC Okays 32 Courses For Newly Established University Of Ilesa
No fewer than thirty-two (32) courses have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the newly established University of Ilesa, Osun State for its take-off.
This is contained in a letter dated September 4th 2023 with reference number NUC/AP/S59/Vol.I/02 signed by the Acting Director, Academic Planning of NUC, Abubakar M. Girei.
It read in part: “I am directed to inform the Vice Chancellor that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following undergraduate programme to be run in the campus of the university with effect from 2023/2024 academic session”.
Among the approved courses are; B.Sc. Anatomy, B.Sc. Physiology, B.Sc. Accounting, B. Sc. Business Administration, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Ed. Economics, B.Sc. Political Science, B.Sc. Public Health, LL.B.Law, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security among others.
Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Taiwo Asaolu while addressing newsmen on Tuesday, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for funding the university.
He said that the management of the institution has contacted both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) who disclosed that the name of the university has featured on the JAMB portal with assurance that all approved courses would be listed before the end of the week so that candidates who intend to crossover can apply in time.
Speaking about counterpart funding from the community, Asaolu said, “Up till now, we have only received support from the state government led my Senator Ademola Adeleke. The running cost of the university and the resource verification fund. However, yesterday I was with Chief Akinola of Ijesaland and I was in a meeting with him discussing how the community is making efforts to assist the university and establish it on a very strong footing.”
He noted that illustrious indigenes of Ijesaland are working assiduously to help the university with funding.
