World Largest Animal Seen In Seychelles Water
World’s largest animal Blue whales are returning to the Seychelles decades after being wiped out by hunting. The Seychelles, once a favored spot for these majestic creatures, has become a potential breeding ground, according to findings published in the journal Endangered Species Research.
The blue whales faced a grim fate due to widespread hunting in the 20th century, with over 340,000 killed, which eventually led it been classified as endangered, however their numbers are slowly recovering following a global ban on whaling.
Dr. Kate Stafford, one of the lead investigators, expressed excitement, stating, “It turns out if you stop killing animals on mass scales and you give them a chance to rebound, they can recover.” The Seychelles has become a significant location for their resurgence, marking a positive shift in their population.
The research team spent a month surveying the waters, listening for underwater signals, and identifying the returning blue whales as a group typically found in the northern Indian Ocean.
This success mirrors similar occurrences, such as their return to South Georgia’s waters and a sighting off Spain’s Atlantic coast after more than 40 years.
This encouraging news underscores the impact of conservation efforts, offering hope for the resurgence of endangered species when given the chance to thrive.
