Hungary Coach Grateful For Support After Collapsing During Match

Hungary assistant coach Adam Szalai has reassured fans about his condition after collapsing during his country’s Nations League match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Saturday.

The incident occurred just seven minutes into the game at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, where the 36-year-old former striker suddenly collapsed on the bench. Medical staff and team members quickly surrounded him, shielding him from view as his legs twitched visibly on the ground.

The match was paused for 13 minutes as Szalai was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Later, Szalai took to social media to thank supporters for their messages, confirming he was fine.

I“Adam is conscious, can talk and all is in order,” head coach Marco Rossi assured reporters during the post-match press conference. “The referee asked us if we wanted to continue playing and my players said they did.”

Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai rallied his teammates in a pitch discussion before they decided to proceed with the match.

Appointed assistant coach earlier this year, Szalai is a former Hungarian team captain with an illustrious playing career, scoring 26 goals in 86 international appearances.

He also enjoyed a successful club career in Germany with Mainz, Schalke 04, and Hoffenheim.

Despite the emotional start, the Netherlands emerged victorious, winning 4-0 to secure their spot in next March’s Nations League quarterfinals.
