Lagos, Oando To Partner On Clean Energy Initiatives
The Lagos State Government on Monday announced plans to partner Oando Clean Energy as part of efforts to decrease the amount of methane gas generated from dumpsites and landfills across the state.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab while receiving the Oando Clean Energy group on a courtesy visit at Alausa, saying that the partnership will positively improve the economy of Lagos State.
The Commissioner expressed the readiness of the state to partner with the group, adding that the collaboration would create opportunities for new jobs and also create a vibrant economy through conversion of Solid, Industrial and Toxic waste into valuable products.
Wahab added that the improper management of wastes is extremely dangerous and affects the environment nagatively, saying the target is to produce energy and alternative fuel from waste through biochemical processes.
He said Lagos State generates over 13,000 tonnes of various waste per day, adding that present administration had resolved to embrace any partnership that will significantly reduce the carbon emission while converting it into a valuable resource for the state.
The Commissioner said the crusade for a sustainable environment is very vital, highlighting that Government’s consultation and partnership with notable organisations to convert waste to energy and other resources is commendable.
He added that with these approaches the state can indeed reinforce the notion that waste is not a waste but a resource.
While speaking the President/CEO Oando Clean Energy limited, Mr Ademola Ogunbanjo said the Oando group is poised to foster sustainable energy solutions while recognising the need for clean energy.
He added that the group is therefore willing to partner Lagos State to ensure actualization of the project.
He said the organisation is a research focused organization, which utilizies feasibility studies, and technology to determine the best waste to energy system and technology capable of handling specific waste types to generate a large amount of energy towards economic growth.
He said the group is employing experts from the Beijing GeoEnviron Engineering and Technology incorporation in China, as well as other foreign experts who initiated the waste to value project in their home country and have recorded a high rate of success.
Speaking on behalf of the Chinese delegation, the founder/partner Regal Lane holdings limited, Yu Jiajia thanked the state officials for the warm reception and expressed the belief that both parties can collaborate to reap the full benefit of the partnership.
Among those who joined the Commissioner to receive the team were the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Service, Dr Omobolaji Gaji, his counterpart in the Office of Drainage Services, Engr Mahamood Adegbite, the Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, General Managers of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr Tunde Ajayi and State Parks and Gardens Agency, Mrs Toun Popoola and directors.
