Two Women Jailed 8 Years For Trafficking In Prohibited Drugs
Two women, Ighagbon Queen and Ajoke Dauda, have been convicted and sentenced to two years and six years imprisonment, respectively for trafficking in prohibited drugs by the Federal High Court, Lagos.
While Igbahon Queen was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment for unlawful export exported of 800 grams of Pentazocine Injection, a psychotropic substance, by Justice Ibrahim Ahmad Kala. Ajoke Dauda was convicted and sentenced to six years imprisonment for trafficking in 45.5 Kilogrames of Cannabis Sativa, also known as Marijuana, was convicted and sentenced by Justice Akintayo Aluko.
The two convicted women were brought before the court by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the charge marked FHC/L/89c/2026 and FHC/L/43c/2026, respectively.
In the case of the convicted Igbahon Queen, the prosecutor, Barrister Abu Ibrahim, informed the court that she was arrested with the prohibited drug on February 2, 2026 at the Screening Point of Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers on Royal Air Maroc flight from Lagos to Bologna, Italy.
Barrister Abu who is a Commander of Narcotics and Head of Legal/Prosecution department of NDLEA’s MMIA Command, informed the court that the illegal act of the convict, was contrary to and punishable under section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The italy-bound woman admitted committing the illegal act and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Based on her guilty plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the charge and pray the court to convict and sentence him in accordance to sections 274(2) and 362(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act ACJA 2015.
However the convict’s lawyers, pleaded with the court to be merciful to their client, saying that she was a victim of circumstances who was deceived by her neighbour.
The lawyer prayed the court for a non-custodian sentence in lieu of the jail terms.
In his decision, Justice Kala sentenced the convicted woman to two years imprisonment. The judge however ordered her to pay the sum of N500, 000.00 with a 30 days community service in lieu of the jail-term.
In the case of the second convict, the prosecutor, Barrister Peter M. Ekuri, informed the court that convict was apprehended with the prohibited weed on December 18, 2025, at the Agbara Checkpoint in Lagos State.
He informed the court that the convict’s act was contrary to and punishable under section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The convicted woman pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to her.
Based on her plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the charge and prayed the court to convit her accordingly.
But her lawyer, Rachel Mimido Nyiew, in her allocutor, pleaded with the court for mercy and informed the court that her client had promised not to ever engage in illicit act.
She therefore urged the court to consider a non-custodian sentence or fine option in lieu of the imprisonment.
Justice Aluko after hearing the counsel submissions, sentenced the woman to six years imprisonment. The judge however ordered her to pay N1 million as a fine option in lieu of the imprisonment.
