Rangers Demand £40m From Arsenal For Fernandez
Arsenal are weighing up a summer move for Emmanuel Fernandez, with Rangers set to demand a club-record fee for the Nigerian defender.
Fernandez has been in impressive form in recent months, attracting interest from several top European clubs, as Arsenal look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
Rangers are understood to be open to selling the 24-year-old but are keen to maximise his value, reflecting his importance to the team.
According to a report by GiveMeSport, Rangers could demand as much as £40m for the centre-back if they are to sanction a deal.
“A fee in the region of £30m to £40m would make Fernandez the most expensive Rangers sale ever, surpassing Calvin Bassey’s £19.6m move to Fulham in 2022,” the report stated.
Bassey currently holds the record for Rangers’ most expensive sale, having joined Ajax in a deal worth £19.6m in the summer of 2022. The defender now plies his trade for Fulham after making the switch from Ajax in 2023 for €21m.
Arsenal are expected to weigh their options carefully, with Fernandez among several defensive targets identified by the club.
While the London side have a clear valuation of the player, they may need to meet Rangers’ asking price if they are to secure his services amid growing competition.
Rangers, meanwhile, face a decision between retaining a key player and capitalising on his rising market value.
Fernandez’s recent form has strengthened his case as a potential Premier League signing, with his performances suggesting he can operate consistently at a high level. His arrival would add depth and quality to Arsenal’s defensive options as they aim to compete across multiple competitions.
The defender recently made his debut for Nigeria in a 2-1 friendly victory over Iran in Antalya, Turkey, coming on at half-time for Semi Ajayi and delivering a composed performance as the team held on for the win.
With interest intensifying and the transfer market becoming increasingly competitive, Arsenal may need to act swiftly if they are to secure Fernandez before rival clubs enter the race.
